would a 150w bulb blow up if you hooked it up to a 1000w balast.

I don't know what would happen, but will you get out a video camera and do that and post the results on youtube for us?

I suspect either the filament/gas tube thingy whatever it's called will blow up and the outer glass might also, or the fuse in the ballast may go.
