what type of Medium works best for Aero?

I was thinking how does the plant stand up or stay supported. I have hydroton would this work to give the plant a firm medium? I'm going to small pots with holes drilled
if this will work or not let me know I'm pretty new to aero but a quick learner so give me your opinion of the best medium

The thing with changing the growing medium in areo set-up is that they have an issue with root rot if the substrate stays too wet. So things like rockwool, cotton balls...ect only work well if you use a cycle where the water is not running all the time because the substrate is too absorbent. They make sponges for germing seeds that work really well and are pretty much the same thing as the aerogarden sponges, I'll be using them on my next grow.

Yes I found with grow cubes root rot was un avoidable and I have been very careful picking the right medium to grow in
