Hey guys, looking as to what I should be looking to sow in the next few weeks for autum/early winter crops in the way of herbs and vegies.

Would like any suggestions!

Cheers :bigjoint:

what are the temps like where you are? in most parts of NZ you should be able to grow most things year round, but carrots, beets, lettuce and other salad greens prefer cool weather. what are your winters like?

Winters are relatively cold, at worst we will have a few -5*c nights, average day temps are probably 10-15*c, with one or two mild dumps of snow and it never settles for more than a day. I was thinking growing some brocolli and cauli at the least. Could you suggest something flavoursome? It will be outdoors rather than in a GRNHouse

go with carrots and beets, cauliflower and broccoli are good. specialty beets like chioggia are always nice. you should be able to grow until nights are regularly near freezing. you can really extend your season by making a simple pvc frame and cover it with plastic. this will help keep the frost off the plants.

Extend the growing period for which sort of plants? i dont think the tomatoes and peas would survive but lettuces and the like yes? Cheers for the help mate! I think the biggest problem where i live is getting them suffiecent light as the days get shorter

you would be extending the season for cool season crops. i grow beets year round in a cold frame and out, but we don't get snow very often. we do get some pretty hard freezes. the beets just take longer to grow with less light.
