i have a good deal from a buddy think i could cover a 10x10 room? 
what size area will 7 100w hps lights cover for vegging?

two 1000 watt hps or more needed for that area if you want to fill it.

yeah u might be able to veg under them but flowering is def a different story gonna need to add a 1000w or 2 400 maybe or 1 600w 1 400w either way u need another 1000w ....GL

my suggestion would be to hang three of them vertically and the other four with overlapping footprints, this will give great light penetration for your plants, but you will only be using about an 1/8t of of that room,

agreed, but idk if the price was right i would want them. never know when you could use some extra lower wattage lights. I'd play with them.
If it's really a good deal, and you can't get a 600w for a comparable price then go for it for now, but know for something serious, more $$ invested in lights =
