Two schools of thought. 1. Spend some time and figure out what is needed and if possible follow on a well worn path others have traveled. 2. Wing it. Seeing I already gave it away in my title which camp I am in I'll just outline where I am and where I think I am going. Along the way I expect to hear advice to try and nudge me to a more successful direction.

I have done a little reading on growing and realize I have a lot to learn. I am a recent medical marijuana patient dealing with pain issues. All I really wanted to do was grow a high CBD strain as some of my pursuits involve sharp rotating machinery (table saws and the like) and I have a fondness for all my digits. While I am glad to have found the high CBD strain does the trick the recurring cost bothered me. So here I am. I still need to find a strain to take care of my night time needs, and then there is the social aspects, almost have to be schooled in something that seemed so simple thirty years ago. Looking forward to it.

So for better or worse I bought three seeds of Canntrust's Original cheese, high THC, the only legal seed I could get. I plan to make most of my mistakes using them. I figured a 2 - 2 1/2 foot tent which I bought 14 strips of Bridgelux BXBE-L0560Z-35E2000-C-B3 3500K at 190W. I do have some electronic knowledge and I picked these strips as they are roughly 20V 700mA, which I can drive with a voltage and current regulated power supply that I have that can put out two channels of 30V@5A.

I am thinking of doing a home brew tent setup, I need to find out what I can scrounge up in town for supplies. I will also be looking into growing media, not sure if I should try hydroponic or just soil for the first time. I am picking up my high price for three non-feminized seeds tomorrow so I better start reading up on how to get started.

Forgot to add, I have some GE Gro and Sho F40GS/WS T8's that I thought might be of use in the initial stages of growth.

You have to ask your self, am I the type that wants to constantly fuck around with these plants or do I wanna just do the bare minimum and enjoy life outside of growing weed.

Personally I got other shit to do then fuck around with growing all day so when I grow its dirt, good lights, cheap ferts, water and a mist cloner. I was getting around a pound every 3 months in a 4x4 room which was fine by me. Make the dirt drain well and water the plants. Took about a half hr of my time each day which was fine because I typically work 65 hours a week.

If you wanna play around with shit and experiment then this is the plant to do it to since it is very resilient and easy to grow. There is a million ways to grow them, either experiment and find the best way you like or read through the differant threads till you come across a method you like.

Good luck with ur endeavor

welcome!

i would go soil! check out fox farms ocean forest or roots organic original potting mix. all youll need to do is put the plants into the soil. water it every so often, and towards the end they might need some nutrients!

almost fool proof for a first time, and keeps cost of nutrients down!

Over the first hurdle. Glad it decided to sprout. Just a picture of my first plant for prosperity. This is the CBD one, just waiting for the THC one to peak out of its shell.

I see so many people on here asking whats up with their plants and they seem to be soil growers. Hydro is so great and I spend less than 30min per day with my RDWC set up. I find it so much better than soil as you know exactly whats happening as you can adjust your nutrients at any time. But im sure you soil guys got your shit dialed in and ya, seems easy as fuck with soil. But that's how I feel about hydro.

Just re-potted it. It was in a peat plug (above) and then in the cup with potting soil. The roots started to go through the drainage holes so I though it would be a good time for a bigger container. Used potting soil and a bit of worm castings mixed in.

Thought of hydro but with what limited reading I have done I did not have a warm and fuzzy feeling about it. I thought the soil method gave me a little leeway in case there was something wrong.

Which potting soil specifically are you using

How many days since you transplanted it

Were the leaves yellowing before the transplant?

What is your watering regimen like? Do you have any nutrients on hand?

Three days ago for re-potting. I water maybe every 4-5 days. I have the worm casings, could make a tea out of it. I did not notice the leaves before. The potting soil is a mix a local gardening outfit.

So are you planning on going organic? If so I can’t help you much. You probably wanna do a top dress of the castings and water it trough.

If you’re not specifically going organic you would wanna pick up a simple cannabis friendly full nutrient like mega crop and start feeding your plants with it.

The reason I keep asking about your potting mix is to find out if it has fertilizer in it. Do you know if it does?

Do you water to runoff and then let your plants get reeaaallly dry between watering?

I doubt thy put any fertilizer in it, cam in a clear unmarked bag. I do water till it runs out the bottom. My place is fairly dry as far as humidity goes, comes with living in Canada. It does get dry between watering, I was concerned maybe I was allowing it to get too dry. I was going to try going organic but that is not carved in stone.

I would try to find out more about the medium. If it doesn’t contain a pH buffer that might cause you some trouble too. Without knowing anything about the medium it would be tough to give advice. Chances are it does contain a pH buffer and a small amount of fertilizer that is wearing off now. Like I said I would feed it something. I would get some megacrop from green leaf nutrients if you’re not married to organic. It’s a real simple one ingredient nutrient that has everything you need. Or anything similar.

OK I'll see what I can get in town. Thanks for the help. I know I didn't give you much for you to go on. I am out of my element here.
