Well, the system that was sent to me to test wasn't all that cheap. lol I do believe I recall the rep talking about low EMI. and like I had said I hadn't in 2 yr's noted any bad reception, or had any knocks at the door. lol ;)

I think its a conspiracy to alert the gov to all who's growing & who's not. There goin feel real funny when the fuzz busts in on an old granny growing her orchids under her new LED system. lol ;)

Ussually the very cheap ,'no-name' ones ...Not all of them....But plenty enough ...

Worst case scenario is a "floating-ground" EMI unprotected CC led driver ....
A powerful 'ripple noise ' transmitter ...
A 'beacon' ,right in the middle of your grow !

...A 'siren' calling ...other ....'sirens' ...

Well that's good haha I mean SDS said cheap panels/drivers, doesn't seem like theyd use cheapo drivers.

Ya I mean "the man" can do whatever they want. But how does having a signal like that give em enough evidence for a warrant? Maybe more like a knock and warning to take care of it? lmao that'd be great, the fact that a granny would be using LED would be BOSS and the fuzz looking like jackasses they are is just too great :)

Im just going by results, I've seen the one report that was negative. but i've also seen hundreds that are positive. the one negative one was 4 years ago. name one company ever that is going to have all positive results. What i do see is alot of companies copying the tech and spectrum that the company put there. aside from hearsay have you actually seen a grow using these lights? compare them to whatever company. I have used Dorm grow and Grow pro, ( check my history) and this light is far exceeding both companies. Ive also grown with hps/mh and this is the only light to beat that set up by a staggering two ounces. I did alot of reaserch and spent alot of money. bottom line for me is results.

RFI from HID ballasts is why I switched to LED. Now y'all are making me sad. I assume my xgs190 is shielded, yes? Also, ferrite cores are inadequate, at least with HID, for shielding interference. Here's a link from some ham radio operator who has really gone into this. Good information. rfi is rfi regardless of source, so this should be valid for led as well.

I woulod assume hte A51 is shielded as with the amount of grows this thing has done by people who know their shit Im sure it wouldve been picked up sooner.


you can always message Jess at A51 and ask him though...

I was just going to make a thread asking specifically about this LED Unit. But I chose to search first and I am happy that I did.

I saw these units in a craigslist post about two or three months ago, this was before they had their Onyx Grow site up, or at least I was not aware of it at the time, they suggested to contact local Hydro shop(s) to ask whether they have any, and/or to ask them to make an order, or that I could contact Onyx directly, or even better make the one and a half hour trip to where they make them and pick one up right from the manufacture.

So, my questions are,

- and this one could most likely be best covered by someone who has built a custom DIY LED light using similar components (at least in quality) to what the Onyx Grow fixture uses, how does the $450 price (for one Onyx Fixture), an all in one unit that includes its external power supply, so I guess it's really a two piece unit but the light itself is a one piece, match up to what you can build yourself for $450?

The Onyx is said to replace the light output of *at least* a 600w HPS. Can someone share some insight on this from their experience?

- next, this one is more specific to the onyx unit itself, what is its operating temp, I know the site provides specs and info, but I am asking for someones personal experience. How much did it/has it raised and or even lowered the overall temp in your grow area? (I understand that some people may have gone from using less light to using this LED which might make the temps increase, and also that some people may have gone from using a hotter light like a HPS to using this LED which would hopefully mean that temps dropped. I hope the LED operates cooler than a HPS.)

I will update this post with more questions as I have them, but for me, I have been wanting to upgrade from using mostly CFL to using Mostly LED, and still making use of the CFL Bulbs I have for side lighting and to fill in any places that could benefit from more light, and also just to have the CFL bulbs for seed starts/side projects etc.

So, if you had $450, and wanted to purchase/build the best quality LED fixture, what would you do? I'm sure that I could get on the DIY vibe and with the help of all the experienced growers here and people I know around where I live that I could make a LED Light, but would the $450 take me as far with a DIY LED as it would get me all the way there for sure with the Onyx Fixture, which to me is so attractive due to its 10w LED Diodes. But I know that watt output most likely isn't all there is to it when it comes to LED, and I have read through, not the most extensively, a good amount of the threads/posts and info about LED on this site, but enough to know I want to move towards more LED Lighting, and enough to know what LED Light/Fixtures I do not want.

let me get back to the computer and I can post a link with a buddu from another forum that's using the onyx. He has no complaints so far and no issues.

Here you go man. I gave him DB kicks name from here and not sure if he contacted DB or not I never asked him if he did. But I know for a fact that he's had a good experience with their costumer service with all of his questions. So seems Onyx is definitely for sure a great cost effective option for LED lights. Putting A51 and RapidLED above the competition for best bang for you buck for quality.

You might have to sign up to view it. That's my main place for posting. some good humble growers quite a few who have been and are still currently featured in high times. Hence the GK in my name. ;)

Sounds good. He seems to like his Onyx and I like my A51s. Either way there are some viable LED options out there for sure. I told him you were curious about those lights and that you might be sending some questions his way.
