YUP....lol.... got some growing here, i would take pics, but guess what, the cats have destroyed it right now.. waiting for the next cycle, just sprout-lings now.. lol..
Just to check, squeeze the leaf between your thumb and a finger, rub back and forth crushing then leaf against your fingers getting the juice on your fingers.. It will smell like a spicy mint.. but the real kicker... go and find a neighbors cat and let them smell your fingers... they wont bite you, typically.. lol.. if it is catnip, you will know right away... they cat will start acting nuts... rolling around, super playful, etc... and it is okay to give to cats fresh... i have been doing it for years..
Plus, it is a strong resilient plant, keeping some in the grow room will keep any little four legged furry intruders distracted from the precious babies in there.. I know a buddies cat that went through his whole crop... six plants in one afternoon when he was out... got cat nip seeds, grew them out, now the cat doesn't even bother with the good plants... the cat would rather the catnip, however if it is not there, they will default to eating the ones you dont want them to...
