What is this I hear about using tacks and nails through the stem to increase potency?

So, I just read in a growers guide that people use tacks and nails into the stem to increase potency...wtf?? has anyone ever tried this or heard this before???

Defly curious...
 
Some plants like blueberries, grape vines, and bay leaf plants when they are injured just below a budsite, sometimes they will sprout another branch.

I say stick to FIM and LST.
 
I have heard of this from my uncle, who is old skool. maybe it's a urban myth and a hippy tale. I could be wrong
