What is the situation in Glendale?

I can't find a dispensary there, and I can't find any articles except for one from 2011.

Can you still grow there? Are they agitating to ban dispensaries, growing even by patients? Are they one of the towns instituting "smell" regulations?

I'm moving to OR very very soon and I've been disappointed to discover that the places I am best able to afford are doing their level best to destroy the main reason I'm coming back to OR, namely its the only place that has medical marijuana AND semi-affordable housing.

I had hopes for the area around Roseburg but its looking as if they want to be backwards about things. So are a lot of places along I-5, apparently.

Help? Can anyone share what the situation is in any of the other small towns along the I-5 corridor?

Glendale is in Douglas County, one of 89 cities and counties that have opted to ban production, processing and retail sales. Sherwood, Wilsonville, Oregon City, West Linn and Linn County are other examples along I-5 Corridor. However, Roseburg in Douglas County has multiple retailers. Considering the no vote was below 55% Voters are set to decide if retail marijuana sales and production will be allowed in unincorporated areas. So my advice is get involved in the community and do your research. www.marijuana.oregon.gov

The point is to avoid moving somewhere that is cannabis-unfriendly. I can't afford to buy a house in a place and then not be able to have full access to my meds.

This is really very upsetting to me. Property taxes are half or less in the smaller towns, and similar houses are $20k to $40k less than in larger municipalities.

So basically it sounds like I had better just avoid all these places - since ballot initiatives and whatnot won't be settled until November, and I need to move by June/July.

I did not find Glendale mentioned on any of the lists that I could find of municipalities that have or are trying to set in place anti-cannabis ordinances, but it IS in Douglas County, which apparently is trying to set anti-cannabis regulations in place at the county level.

So should I just stay out of Douglas County? I'm not sure what the effect of a county banning cannabis has on municipalities where it is specifically legal now and they have dispensaries - like Roseburg. Will Roseburg be safe regardless of what the county does?

Are there any small towns anyone could suggest that are NOT trying to monkey around with trying to make end runs around the law? Along the I-5 corridor?

I could really really use any help in trying to identify the safest areas for me, medical marijuana-ly speaking. A big part of the equation is being able to grow my own as Medicare does not pay for this medication and I am on a very tightly "fixed" income. Where I am now, MM has already cost me over $1k and it hasn't been a year yet. So 2k a year, to estimate, for my meds here - that's like 10% of my income. It's a little cheaper there but still. Even one grow a year would really help me.

BTW I am not moving to OR specifically for access to MM. I already have that where I am now. But I have been living with my son for 5 years and his fiancee has finished her doctorate so they would like to set up a household of their own. And I am better now - for the first 3 or 4 years I couldn't have managed very well on my own, but I can now. So its time for me to set up a household of MY own as well, and I would like to do that somewhere where I don't have to lose access to my meds. OR was the only state with workable MM that I could find homes in my price range - and most of those now appear to be in areas where the politicians, NOT the people, are trying to secede from the rest of the state.

Any help identifying where I can go and be less fearful of losing access to meds and the ability to grow them would be greatly appreciated. Those odor ordinances are particularly pernicious.

Well I'll tell you this. Once these counties realize the amount of income they are missing out on, they will change their minds real quick. I would say if you have 4 plants within your home, they won't bat an eye, unless it affects their community in a negative way. Carbon filters!!! Have you looked into the greater metro of Portland. Vancouver Washington? Salem? Eugene? Also check out new mexico, they are way more lenient and on the cusp of legalization. Albuquerque NM is very affordable in housing. You can have up to 16 plants (4 mature) with a medical card.

Portland! CANNOT AFFORD! I'm trying to get into a house for $100k or less. I CAN go up to 140K if I HAVE to, but I'd rather not - property taxes will almost certainly go up faster than my disability. And before anyone says there isn't decent housing in that price range - there is. But it is not in Portland, and by and large its not in Salem either. You can find it in Eugene/Springfield but the housing is usually "troubled" in some way. You can find it in Roseburg, but Roseburg is right smack dab in the middle of Douglas County where they are trying to ban production facilities and retail outlets at the county level.

I'm looking at smaller towns just outside places like Eugene and Roseburg. Like Myrtle Creek (which has a ban), Creswell (which has a ban), and Glendale (which I can't find anything out).

NM is out. I'm in a desert now and not looking to move to another one, LOL! Must have rain!

WA is out. Too expensive, plus real estate there has SALES TAX yipes which adds thousands of dollars to the purchase. Plus WA has NO medical marijuana any more, just recreational, at much higher cost.

I used to live in Portland, but grew up in Ohio. People complained about the rain all the time. I hardly ever even noticed it, in fact I didn't even use an umbrella most of the time because it doesn't even drizzle, it just sort of mists. Hardly ever really rains. Where I grew up, when it rains, it POURS. Step out the front door and be immediately drenched. Granted the total rainfall is less there, but when it comes, it is memorable. Folks in Portland are just rain lightweights, LOL!

Well good luck on the house search. I wouldn't worry too much about being criminalized no matter where you end up. If you are small scale, personal meds only, no one will drop the dime on you. Washington made a lot of mistakes when it came to omitting medical, I feel bad for their parients. The product they offer, is well sub par. And a 37% tax is laughable. Oregon is about to separate the two, lower the tax to 20%. Well see how this affects growers.

I live in Portland. So pffffff. The rain is minimal. People just say it's terrible so no one else moves here. You could always drive to Portland pick up your meds for a month...etc.... Also there are OMMP courier services, unsure about rural availability.

BTW New Mexico is not the bleek desert you have seen on Breaking Bad. It is beautiful. Albuquerque is within 2 hours if lush forest. Northern NM is like no other place, rich in culture, scenery and is far less populated. Jemez mountains are amazing. Sangre De cristos, Sandias all beautiful. But if you are a rain lover, I get it.

I really need to grow OUTSIDE but I guess I'll have to take my chances. Nobody here is growing outside now?

My mother lived in NM. I know what it's like. Its not for me, LOL!

Thanks for the help.
