What is the cheapest way to get co2 for your plants?

I am starting my first crop since the 70's. So, this co2 stuff is new to me.

I am on a limited budget. What is the cheapest way to get the co2?

I was planning on using the sugar & yeast method.

Is there anyone out there who has tried different ways and could answer my question?

Fresh Air ! will literally blow away any diy co2 generator, just crack a window if your indoors, that's what I do :bigjoint:

really need to understand how to dial the numbers to properly add co2 and it cost a lot of $$$ to do it right, it is more for big/huge commercial grows

take a spray bottle nozzle and put in a bottle of carbonated water spray your plants right as you turn lights on.Plants get sprayed and they get a little co2

I use CO2 tablets that you get from aquarium supply stores. They are like alkaseltzers. You put one in a cup of water and 350cc of CO2 is released. Its like $10 for 16 or so. Ill use a couple every week.

First thing you have to know is the size of the room you are talking about. All of the easy fixes will only work in a smaller space. So first thing is,, How big is your space?

this is one of the most overlooked question

not a bad idea for a small sealed grows
someone with a meter should test this
i know it says 350cc are released but how long does this stay in the room
prolly best to just suck air from out side into your grow room threw a dryer hose thats hanging out a window connect the other end to the back of a fan then place the fan in your grow room

I have a Co2 setup, and it works great.

20lb tank, co2 controller, yada yada..

And yes, its expensive to get all the parts to make it work correctly.

When Im in my growroom taking care of business(nute changes or admiring), I notice my Co2 lcd gauge going to some pretty high levels while Im in there.

Bottom line, go in your growspace and spend as much time as possible with your girls, it really makes a HUGE difference in Co2 levels.

More than you think. :)

I have used the sugar and yeast method with some positive results. It is a pain to keep your levels up with it and I dont know for sure if it is potent enough or what. At one point I had three 2 liter bottles going with the concoction of sugar and yeast. I tested upwards of 1800 ppm's with the syringe type tester in a 5x8x7 sealed grow room.

I am no longer doing the yeast and sugar as my friend has proven that this method is inefficient. He uses a propane burner at one location with great success. After conversations with 5hit I will also be looking into investing in this method of generating co2. 5hit (and others on this thread) bring up good point about your; room size, ventilation set up and requirements. There is some to do with temps and rh to optimize co2 usage also. I dont know the specifics yet, just trying to spread some knowledge...

I am lucky enough to have a setup which allows me to introduce fresh air constantly. I do, however, supplement my CO2 by placing topless beer cans half full of hot water next to each plant and dropping chunks of dry ice in them. looks pretty cool when plants are completely engulfed in thick fog, and as dry ice is pure CO2, I feel certain that my girls are loving these occasional CO2 baths. Dry ice is very cheap, easily obtained, and I would hazard a guess that you might find the ppm is pretty extreme.

That sounds cool as fuck. Might try this even after I get the burner.
