What is the best way to completely clean an ezcloner once it's fucked?

I read reviews saying that they work great, then after awhile, not so much. Then they quit working.
Yep. That's where I'm at. Before I break it all down again today and clean it real good, I figured I'd
take some advice and work smarter, not harder. I have new pucks (collars - turbo cloner pucks - much betterer)
for once it's cleaned also.
I considered removing top rack of the dishwasher to get real hot water on it, but I'd be pretty pissed if I melted it. lol.

I remember reading somewhere there is some diseases that you can get in hydro systems if there is any place that water can get stagnant. Once its there you need to find it and clean it, or remove it. I'll try to brainstorm and think of where I read that. I know in some of my catalogs there is some cleaning supplies just for hydro systems.

I've thought of buying a cloner a few times but the little rapid rooter cubes works so good and are cheap. A new tray is only a few bucks. And side by side comparison of cloner clones to rapid rooter clones.... the cloner is by all mean way faster, although I have had a few strains root in 3 days in the cubes (most take 10-20). The clone I've seen and received from cloning machines have nice strong root balls started, but only out of a small part of the stem. Leaving a young plant not as sturdy (no big problem). My clones in the cubes have an evenly developed root ball all the way up the stem. I'd have to play with a cloning machine myself to say for sure but I think I like the plants that come out of the rooter cube a little better.

Well that stinks. I'd love to help you glad but I've never had to clean mine. I've had the fucker for 6-7 years and I've never once had to clean it or do anything to it. The thing works like a charm to this day. I wonder if it's the water you're using?. I use tap water and don't let it sit at all. Maybe the chlorine in my water keeps everything clean and operating smoothly??

you could put it in a box in the corner then put a tray with a dome on top of it then just clone into rockwool or rapid rooters or something along those lines

Did you get the green slime is that what screwed it? I personally use the old skool method plugs and gel and have always had stellar results, but my buddy uses one and he runs it between every cycle with germicidal bleach the runs it several times with just plain hot water to get all the junk out.

I called the EZ-Kloner people and they said they didn't see why I couldn't put everything but the pump in the dishwasher. I asked if it was dishwasher safe to clean the fuck out of it. Their suggestion was a good soak with peroxide and water but I went the extra mile and top racked the dishwasher and it didn't warp or anything. that might be your ticket. gets hot enough to sterilize in that thing. If it was me I'd run it with a few oz of peroxide mixed in the water for an hour or two then let the pump dry completely and dishwasher the rest to remove any and all shit in it.

Mine worked great when I always used it. Now, I clean it before and after each use and the last few runs have been shit.

Dripclean from H&G maybe? It works on my pumps and tubing.

I believe homeless left me some drip clean on the shelf.

yep. Well I usually don't leave them in the cloner that long because they get roots and I plant them, eh. But when they take a long time to root, then the fuckers just sit there til bad things start to happen.

I will run the top through dishwasher. Maybe run peroxide for a day, then drip clean for a day, then water for a few days, changing it several times. With new pucks.

Cleaning it out, I always removed the sprayers and cleaned them, rinsed plenty of water through the head rack piece, but I quit setting it up and running clean water through the system and rinsing it that way.
Also now that I think about it, I recently changed nutes too. I always used clonex solution and I used a few other brands cuz belle would say the place didn't have clonex so I just grabbed you.... One was an expensive as fuck botanicare and forgot the other brand, but actually I've had trouble since then. Cuz I thought both brands sucked and a tracked down actual clonex and my clones didn't root. hmmm.
Sometimes just talking to you guys makes all the difference. lmao.

Don't forget to use a good plastic scouring pad along with some picks for the small stuff . Sounds like you have mineral buildup as its common with hard water and time . I tend to break my cloners down every few weeks for a general bleaching and maybe every other month I take some white vinegar and run it through them in the bathtub as this usually breaks down most scale and lime . Rinse and repeat if need be as the acidity level in vinegar is usually 4-5 % and this is not always enough .

I always just ensure it's sterile when I clean it and use benny bac and a lite nute when in use. Lessening the draw from leaves keeps them from dying off and getting things going in the wrong direction.

I currently have some Apollo 13 cuts that I have sadly neglected in my cloner for some time now :( They are currently teens and my res is full of roots :o I'm guesting I'll be planting those net pots along with these ladies ;)

Bummer, my method for everything is 1 part bleach 10 parts water, cleans even the nastiest viruses, the food and medical industries have been using it for years, and it is cheap you can buy a ton of bleach for a few bucks.

Peace

ideally i attempt to have backups of whatever I'm screwing with so I can rotate devises, eventually one breaks apart. this works well w used automobiles, ones always in service or parked. don't listen to me I waste economy going after new for the double..

Oh ya and never use a scouring pad on plastics or soft materials it will leave little micro scratches that equate to little micro homes for nasties to grow in, Soft clothes and chems always on soft materials, scouring pads will scrath steel.

Peace

Hence the mentioning of the plastic , the plastic needle scouring pad invention saved alot of pots and pans as well as non stick surfaces , but I agree and only use the finest for gentle removal of mineral buildup after soaking :)

Lol some of the cheap plastics used in cloners could be scoured to nothing in no time at all

So I broke the cloner down completely. Cleaned everything real good, like usual (so I thought).
I filled the bottom with hot water and added roughly a glug, glug, glug of bleach to it. I let that all
soak for a day. Rinsed everything real good and washed it all in hot water. The bleach made all the
mineral deposits extremely visible. As I type this I'm pretty disappointed that I didn't take pics. lol.
I have a few brands of plastic scrub pads also. Naturally I used the doobie ones. Anyway, holy wah,
what a bitch!!:wall:.
I'm gonna try and call ezcloner and see if they have any ideas.
I'm pretty sure this is well over a year old and I didn't take the best care of this unit.
Anytime I would ignore it and let it runs and extra week or two I'd just break it all down
and be good again, - so I thought.

I may be buying jugs of water for this from here out.
