What Is A Good Budget?

Hey guys,

I want to start growing myself a good sized portion. I'm considering about a $500.00 budget. Is this good enough for all the equipment + seeds? Should I consider more? How much space do you guys think I'll need?

That really depends on a lot of things. I think more details about what kind of set-up you would like (dirt/hydro etc.) would help. Also what kind of results your looking for. Help us help you.

Some things that would help me with your questions are:
How many plants do you want to grow?
How big are your potential grow area's? (approx. Sq ft?)

Whatever you have in mind, im sure we can help. :leaf:

Indoor growing unfortunately can stretch the pocketbook a little if one goes deep into it. But if you're just starting a huge sophisticated setup might not be. 500bucks will however get you for sure the bare essentials. My first grow consisted of a PH Meter (liquid colour type) Ferts (A+B type) 400Watter, Soil, Perlite, and 10 seeds. This type of setup should not cost more than 500USD.

But as Guest did say above it is difficult to gauge your requirements, without giving a bit more info.

always think more, say $1000. get a good light(s) a good reflector and good air conditioning. And odor control if needed in your circumstances. Also a good strain and gens of seeds. And then in the end, if you dont spend all of your budget you've won :) and you have left over for the little things you need e.g Ph tester EC meter thermometer ect.
PS i live in the uk, my budget was £600-£700 i spent all that.
Good luck with you adventures

Its reasonable, but once you start... its hard to stop. Be warned! haha.

Im on my first personal grow and initial cost was around $600 but I also got TONS of freebies.
Tent, Smart Pots, Fans, Ventilation, Trays, Coco, Nutes, Spray Bottles, Ph & TDS Meters, CFLs.. The list goes on for what I actually paid for.

I was lucky enough to get free clones, a free 4ft 6 Bulb T-5 w/ Bulbs, Some extra nutes & bug spray...

But after starting and being sufficient, Ive easly invested another $300+ Into the next go around so im ready, along with extra money here and there for improvements. Initial start up costs can suck but after a couple grows its nothing and nice to have everything you need already.

IIRC my setup was around $600 that was for cooltube, ballast, bulbs, waterfarm, tent, filter and fan. Very good investment considering how much it has re-payed me in such a short time.

Re those 2006 numbers? Check out the OP post date, LOL.

Mr2shims, thought you were going to reply in your usual fashion... $2million dollars!

I dropped $1000+ for a 2'x3' grow closet. My first 4 plants produced 8 oz. in 4 months.

Do the math on the harvest, money well spent? Future grows get cheaper and the ROI goes up.

Just have to make the leap, buy the right equipment, and get busy. I started with a $500 budget too!

LOL damn, the one time I don't pay attention to OP post date. It is money well spent. I can't fathom how people still buy from dealers. Especially if they have the space/ability to grow. My very first grow cost me something like $400. I ended up getting just over an oz off two plants. Read about SCROG + waterfarm, spent $600 on it. So all in all I've spent probably 1200 on growing since it all began. Not bad.
