What does budrott smell like?

I was given some herb and it smells.....off putting. Almost like "magic" mushrooms or stale popcorn. There are some darker spots on it but I'm not sure. I inspected it with a USB Microscope and didn't find anything powdery so I'm thinking just shitty cured bud or part of the crop had budrott. I never smell it before though so I was hoping for some explanations on what budrott smells like.

I dunno I wouldn't smell it. I've seen it once and never want to see it again. So I bought a DH! Post a pic I'll tell you.

usually has the absence of smell, if you are referring to botritus.
honestly I've never noticed a mold "smell" before, not with herb anyways
if there are any dark spots its most likely mold
do NOT smoke it...

Pull the bud apart you can't miss it. Think rotten fruit. It will be similar just in a bud.

No that doesn't look like rot to me. I will say this if the best smelling weed is cured wrong it can smell like lawn clippings or hay. And taste like crapola. But other than that it's fine to smoke. I won't do it but it's ok. Of course I can't be 100% certain but that dark color doesn't look like mold. That looks more like cold nights. I think mold would be more spotty. When temps are cold leaves get purplish from the tips of the leaves inward. But I'd think you'd notice it is mold with the microscope.

As for smell because mVOCS have a strong or unpleasant smell musty smell etc its like going into a cold storage room or a room that was flooded at one time.
You will have smell etc

that's just bad trimming.
the yellow parts are of untrimmed trim-leaves.
not mold.
mold will be crumbly, dusty-like in texture, not cohesive at all
and brown or grey or worst case black

Jub, that is not bud rot or mold, how did you cure it? Was it in a Light place? Looks that way, Cool and Dark lo humidity it the best, IMO it looks like it there was light on it when drying, I had that happen before, I thought I would use a flo light to help cure because of the damp summer and was taking forever to cure and the buds turned very dark when dry enough to put in jars for final curing. I didn't see any on your bud But I did see what I thought was a small yellow spot which I thought may have been a pollinating flower or just a yellow leaf.
Nice Trichomes though.
take your time curing that is most important when i cure mine it takes anywhere from 14 to 30 days to do it right. and some I did even longer seems the longer is sits the better it gets. Good luck
