Heres a letter I wrote to give to my doctor to try and convince him to sign my mmar forms. What do you guys think? Anything you would add/remove?
Hello, my name is ---- and I've been diagnosed with social anxiety disorder, general anxiety disorder and depression when I was 13 years old. I've tried more conventional methods of treatment than I could possibly list wth no avail. Because of this I have extreme difficulty eating and sleeping which cause me to bcome dangerously underweight, weak, sick, miserable, and just completely unable to function and lead a normal productive life. In the past cannabis has been miraculous is relieving these symptoms. I regain my appetite, Im able to maintain a regular sleeping pattern and I also noticed my anxiety goes away almost completely. I dont believe it directly treats depression, however my depression is the result of my other symptoms which make life so difficult so it has been extremely helpful in that aspect as well. Cannabis has been proven to be one of the safest theraputic substances on the planet and its not right that I should have to risk going to jail in order to lead a happy life. The pursuit of happiness is a basic human right that I feel I have been stripped of. Many people believe medical marijuana is only for terminally ill patients; this is just not true. There are 2 categories which patients fall into. The following has been copied directly from the Health Canada website.
Category 1: This category is comprised of any symptoms treated within the context of providing compassionate end-of-life care; or the symptoms associated with the specified medical conditions listed in the schedule to the Regulations, namely:
Severe pain and/or persistent muscle spasms from multiple sclerosis;
Severe pain and/or persistent muscle spasms from a spinal cord injury;
Severe pain and/or persistent muscle spasms from spinal cord disease;
Severe pain, cachexia, anorexia, weight loss, and/or severe nausea from cancer;
Severe pain, cachexia, anorexia, weight loss, and/or severe nausea from HIV/AIDS infection;
Severe pain from severe forms of arthritis; or
Seizures from epilepsy.
Category 2: This category is for applicants who have debilitating symptom (s) of medical condition (s), other than those described in Category 1. Under Category 2, persons with debilitating symptoms can apply to obtain an Authorization to Possess dried marihuana for medical purposes, if a specialist confirms the diagnosis and that conventional treatments have failed or judged inappropriate to relieve symptoms of the medical condition. While an assessment of the applicant's case by a specialist is required, the treating physician, whether or not a specialist, can sign the medical declaration.
In order to recieve an MMAR license from Health Canada, I do not need a prescription or anything like that. Health Canada grants authorization to posess marijuana, the doctor's job is just to put the patient's diagnosis in writing so that Health Canada knows the patient's illness is what they claim it is and all the other conventional methods of treatment have not helped.
I have provided a release form for medical practitioners relieving you of any responsibility in the matter. Just remember, the doctor does not authorize the use of cannabis, Health Canada does. I just need a doctor's support. There is absolutely no risk for a doctor to sign these forms because the forms are just the support of a credible person. The forms are an application, not an authorization. I do not expect this letter to convince you but I hope it brings some new information about the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes and I hope it makes you just a little bit more open minded towards the subject. I also hope that you will agree to see me in order to learn my medical history, previous treatments I have tried, and the results I have had from them. I am very confident that if you took a few minutes to know me you would be able to understand why this is so crutial to my well being.
well? you guys think this will help?
