What causes this?

First timer here and seeing what looks like insect damage on a few branches on two plants. It’s not widespread and can’t find the culprits...thoughts?

Added a pic of the grow to get feedback on progress. Seems to be going ok. Eastern Canada.

r those holes or black spots?

Looks kinda like thrip damage to me. Either way you need to look into getting something to spray. I like using Captain Jacks dead bug rotated with a neem product such ad Azamax or cold pressed neem oil itself. Don't spray neem oil on flowering plants though. There are lots of products out there but those are the ones I use and they are great. I spray at sunset and work from the bottom up. Be careful if you have any beehives when you spray.

If you use neem oil put in a drop of soap as a wetting agent.

Don't use anti bacterial soap though.
