What causes old leaves to turn yellow when new leaves grow

I have two plants that started to turn yellow on the leaves. I checked the PH and found it was off so I fixed it. I waited a week and new leaves sprouted. The older leaves were still withering so I added some nutes, around 400-500ppm which I maintained.(I originally didn't have nutes since the plants were only two weeks old) A week went by and the new growth looked promising but every time it seems like a set of leaves begin to yellow as new leaves are formed. I am using the flora series nutes from general hydro. This is my 5th grow and I never had issues like this till now.

whats the size of the pot? if the roots arnt big enough to support the new foliage the older growth dies

I am growing in DWC, DEEP WATER CULTURE. I am using 3 inch net pots in 6 gallon Tupperware. This is the same set up I have used for 4 other grows and had no issues.

pics.. Soil?

This is a picture taken before I fixed PH. New leaves have formed that are much greener as I mentioned earlier but I still have a problem. Also Yes I did fix the light leak that you may notice.

It baffles me how new green healthy leaves appear and then the older leaves start to yellow like the ones you see in the pic. This pic was taken when I had no nutes as well. After a week of running with no nutes and adjusted PH it still was turning yellow which is why I have 400-500ppm now.

Does the plant take awhile to recover?

I am also wondering whar causes this, anybody? Is it because of too little nutes leading to new leaves taking fron older ones?

In Hydro your supposed to feed it right from the start. start off 200ppm and increase as she grows (weekly or bi weekly). When you don't feed for 2 weeks that is made for soil since soil has nutes in there for 2 to 4 weeks. Depends on your strain. Most of the time its 2 weeks GDP wants more food by the 1st week.

You can't have your res all open like that to the light. Bet you have root algae or some other nasty thing choking your plant.

what is the cause..... i think its failure to recognize nitrogen deficiency

Well then I have to say i'm pissed off at all these guides saying don not over feed the plant, start with 1/4 of the recommended strength and feed every other watering. I have had food deficiencies all the way because of this even though I have fed full recommended dosage all the time.

The answer depends on what leaves,if it's the first leaves then the plant will just eat the energy and shed them since they wouldn't be good enough for sufficient energy.
It's basically a trade for better leaves 3 vs 5,newer leaves yellow at the bottom is N def.

I decided to water with a nitrogen / potassium nutrient today full strength about 5dl. Even though I had 1-2 more days before watering again. I was worried the symptoms might get worse so nos I'll just sit back and watch what happens in a few days.

What guide have you read that mentions "feeding with every other watering" in DWC? You are supposed to wait until the third node to feed and you start at 1/4th strength and ramp up as long as the plant tolerates. But what "watering" are you talking about? Are you saying you put plain water in your bucket every other time you change the water?

I do not grow in DWC, I grow in soil. Im growing an auto right now and they recommends that I do not feed it the first 2-3 weeks, I did not do that and this led to starving my plant a little bit, however It has been growing fine and I´m going probably to feed it every time I water now because it seems to devour the nutrition.

Edit: I did not know that you were supposed to start to feed with the tird node, its good to know, this is my first grow so it is good that I experience this now and learn from it =)
