What are good strains to clone if I am using an indoor setup?

I used to grow all the time about 10 years ago and I was an avid user on rollitup. Almost 5 years have passed since I was growing and I know there are plenty of things that have changed. I used to transport my mother plants outside to get sun, then put them back under HIDs until they got 18 hours of light each day. Clones rooted easily no matter what strain I used and I believe it had to do with the hardening of the plant. I actually have never done an indoor only grow and I am interested in absorbing any information that experienced growers are willing to share. Thank you for taking the time to read and respond to this post. I look forward to hearing what fellow growers have to say!

First please see my signature...

2nd I always grow from seed...not saying you have to by any means. I don't like the idea of having wet rock-wool hanging around in or near my garden...if there is a fungus gnat within 1000 miles it will find it.

Also, cultivation of cannabis has not changed all that much since the dawn of man. Yes a lot of new toys and gadgets, and indoor growing is a relatively new practice as well...but other than that...let's see some BUDZ!!!
 
read everything except toke-n-talk.

read a few grow journals.

do you have your room set up already?

indoor growing starts with room prep, if you can/if you cant: tents are now a decent option.

grow whatever you can your hands on. get dialed in. then drop some $ on genetics.

To the OP, since you said you are an experienced grower, I did not include my usual 'Newbie Welcome' post so...here you go..LOL!!

Welcome to RIU, and the wonderful world of cultivating the world's most misunderstood and feared medicines!!!

The only 'advice' I can give you or anyone is to read and learn and then apply what you have read and learned to your garden and you cannot fail. Anyways, remember the search tool is your friend...Lots of folks here willing to help a new farmer get up and growing. But at the end of the day your grow will be only as good as the knowledge and work you put into it.

It is always great to ask questions but do not take anyone's advice or opinions and follow blindly. Do your own research, you will be much happier knowing you have done it for yourself and by yourself. The first buzz you get from your own budz...is by far the BEST high you will ever have!

Do a search using your current question as the keyword(s) and ZOOOM!! Like Wonka's Great Glass Elevator…off you go to tons of threads answering all your questions. Read all the Newbie Central stickies and learn…

After that you are a seasoned vet. Because to soak up all that information and sift through it, is going to take time. You will likely finish your first grow by then. Viola! grow complete and education well under way.
 
To answer the title question.

A version of diesel they say. Roots quick no matter which method. I could chew the branches off with my teeth and eat them, digest them and dump them out and they would still root. Obviously that's not true, but in all the strains I have ever done it could take any beating, any screw ups, ph issues, humidity problems whatever you throw at it it will come back all perky and just grow. Good on yield too!
Only problem I had was as much as everyone loved it. It didn't like me. Twanged my brain more than any other.

Thank you everyone for the comments! I would have checked this out sooner, but I have been grinding for finals. My friend has genetics that he gets from connections he has made through the California Cannabis cup events. I have some sick genetics that I know are coming from legitimate sources. I also have some seeds that have just popped out from the soil. I know one of them is Jetfuel, a strain that I am not familiar with but I heard it is an expensive strain to get. They are all labeled and I can list them if you all would like to know. Also, I really enjoy the Jiffy Pellets to use as a cloning medium or something with coco coir. the aeration is great and they do not have the fungus problems like rockwool does. I will provide pictures of my grow room once it is fully built tonight or tomorrow. I believe it is a 12x12 grow tent and I am getting 1 or 2 100w lights. I live in a student housing place off campus and I can grow within the legal limits at the place. I plan on having some monster mothers and looking to either split the room up into a two 6x6 areas with one veg one flower. there is another room available at this location for $700/mo that I am considering picking up and turning that whole room into a flowering location. I know it is a bit pricey for a single room, but the apartments are new with upgraded electrical and upgraded circuits. It is built to handle 4 independent rooms blasting a ton of wattage and my fellow roomies do not mind different chords running to different outlets around the house, as long as I pay the electricity of course. Because of the amount of people living in the house, running a large amount of watts stays under the radar. Aka, all 4 students might have 1080p 50 inch+ tvs with gaming systems, laptops, personal ac/heating units. 4000-5000+ watts in the living spaces is common

this is off subject, but having "roomies" and growing does not sound like a good idea. I know they are good friends and you can trust them, even if that is true. can you be sure they wouldn't by accident expose your op?

IMHO, if that's what you dealing with, try to keep it in your room with a locked door. or even better find your own spot.

its not aways the right time to grow. just like planning your grow room, you have to plan the social environment as well.
 
I've been relying on 2 main strains in my perpetual grow. Blueberry Gum from G13 Labs and High Priority from 710 genetics. I harvested 50-60 BG's last year and 25-30 of the HP so far this year. Clones make up 80% of my finishing plants as I average 100 plants a year.

harveylitup I think you should clone every strain you have until you try it because if you fall in love with it you will want to get it growing and producing pounds possibly. The right strain to clone is all of them and then keep cloning the ones you love because you can keep them in veg for years. If you want to grow perpetually it is an excellent way to achieve this as you take your clones in veg shortly before moving them to flower. Some strains are harder to clone recently I picked up ACDC it took forever to root so I am thinking of trying air cloning on it.

You don't have to use rockwool to clone you can use a fish tank air pump, air stone and any light proof or light proofed container. Few holes on top for the stems to poke through. Clones don't have a tap root so you have to develop the root system for soil but in hydro or dwc it doesn't even matter. It is said clones are more prone to gnats or root rot, but I believe that's a myth spawned by the fact that you have to carefully build their root system. To achieve this I personally grow the roots to 3-6 inches for a solo cup (4 holes cut in bottom for drainage). I put an inch of dirt at the bottom of the solo cup. Then I take the clone and guide the roots to the bottom (they stick to everything they come near like a magnet). For longer roots I gently work the roots in a small half circle at the bottom then I position the plants height and poor dirt in around it trying to keep the damn thing center. (if i botch centering it I fix it on the next transplant) I think people know not to compact the soil?, if not don't compact the soil gently push it a little then water really slowly at first. The rest is the same with seeds completely dry before you water again or you will be sorry. Clones are everything to me I've grown them in everything. I've grown them in rockwool! Actually that's the only time I recommend cloning in rockwool is when you're growing in it.

Of course most of my post was for the op I wasn't truly trying to sway you. Seeds yield more sooner that's not debatable and I love growing from seeds. All my seeds ever have been gifted to me I don't spend money on genetics but I have 2 long time friends that both go nuts buying seeds. I get cuttings from them lol
