Instead of welfare to work programs, sorry I forgot the annointed one did away with it. How bout work for welfare. I know I pay enough in taxes for these so called entitlements. Is it wrong to think these folks that are able, should come cut my grass or something in return? For GODs sake have these folks ever felt pride or wanted to.
we have had that before. it doesnt work, and it cares nothing for the welfare of it's captives.

we have a surplus of labour, and as a result there is no "work" to be had unless the unemployed move to a new location, which means becoming homeless unless you have a sizeable cache of cash to set yourself up in north dakota or wyoming, or one of the other states with a labour shortage.
instituting "workfare" simply transforms the jobless into thralls of the state, never having enough money to move to where they can find work, and never able to get the "education training and skills" to become gainfuly employed in the industires where there are openings locally.
the previous "bootstrap" option of bygone eras were itinerant farm labour, but farm labour is now handled by the excess labour force from other countries.
the leftist solution is of course to throw OUR money at the problem and hope somehow the inner cities and impoverished rural areas can somehow "grow their way out of it" while they do everything in their power to stifle growth in any industry which requires labour by regulating away our industries to foreign lands which are too poor to afford the luxury of eco-lunacy and a "service based economy".
the neo-con solution is to tell them to pull themselves up by their bootstraps while simultaneously taking their boots away and giving it to anybody in a foreign land who will work cheaper.
the industrial mobilization of the mid 20th century has drastically altered the social landscape, by pushing vast numbers of people into the urban areas, while the "free trade" nonsense of the late 20th, and early 21st has eliminated the jobs created by that industrial mobilization, and sending those jobs to other nations in pursuit of higher profits from even more oppressed and impoverished foreigners who will work for even less.
as long as we export our wealth to import our goods the cycle will continue, and niether the leftists not the neo-cons has any desire to change the system which has worked so well for them over the last 80 years or so.
