Weird looking cola

Couple questsions:

Whats wrong with this plant's cola bud? It looks like a mohawk

How close is too close to the light? I turned them off so i can take the picture...
I can stick my hand under this 1kw HPS and be fine so the this plant is about 2 inches away from it.

lol well Im new... I've been experimenting with different neuts. First with GH flora 3 part, then Veg+Bloom 1 part, and then back to the GH 3 part because i ran out of money for the veg+bloom.
 
If its only two inches away then that is way too close for an hId light.I can't really tell from the pic but will tell you that heat will make the cylaxes stretch and beyond o compact bud. Check your temps and keep the light the appropriate distance from the plants . Also test by putting your hand at plant height for a couple min and see if you hand is hot. If it is then its too close. Also use a lot if circulation as this will help a lot. But seems rather fine looking plants you got there .
 
Thanks for your reply..the plant with the weird cola is not 2 inches.
As stated i did do the hand check...
The plant that is 2 inches is in the second picture on the left. I just put it there to see if that would increase my yield and make the buds more dense.

my 1k HPSs don't look like they get that bright... maybe its just my eyes adjusting.

I should prob get one of those light meters... forgot what they are called.
 
thanks for the complements guys! Puts a big smile on my face! This is my first plant but i've been doing SO much reading, its like i'm obsessed with growing ><

ok so back to the light question? How close is too close? The lights run pretty cool i have a 400cfm cooling them so i can stick my hand under them NP. Its about 80f right under the light

I just had a dream one of plants started growing berries and thorns don't get too obsessed lol
 
80F if you are measuring at the tip of that bud is fine bro. Keep them as close as you want with temps like that. I've had buds just about touching the glass lens if i was able to keep the lights cool enough and they were fine.
 
yea its 80 at the top cola of the plant. lol prob going to get some VERY dense buds if i can get them that close to a 1k!
