week 8 of flower starts today - no bigger fan leaves left

hey guys.

i have a single plant topped for two colas under a 150hps and 23x6 cfls.

as it stands, it looks like my yield is going to end up being about 1oz when everything is dried. this is quite acceptable for my first grow, so i'm pleased.

my question is this: i vegged the plant for a bit too long. it might have gone into flower about 4-5" taller than what i now realize would have been optimal.

it showed sex within three days of switching to 12/12 so i know it was pretty well developed already.

fan leaves started yellowing by the end of week 2, and as of yesterday i basically have no fan leaves left.. just the smaller leaves sticking from the budsites.

i gather i'm about 3 solid weeks from finish - i have about 15% red hairs and i'm looking at about 80% clear, 10% milky, 10% amber trichs. in the last week they've really put on some girth, the colas are as wide as a pack of cigarettes.

with three weeks left and zero fan leaves, am i going to be hampering resin production significantly? will i not get the fattening typical in the last two weeks becuase i'm out of fan leaves?

its a 12" pot, no idea how deep it is. probably 8-10 inches.

distilled water + ph down for non feeding days, distilled water + ph down + tiger bloom for feeding days. i alternate between the two and water about every 3 days.

i continued very low strength veg nutes through week 4 and flushed at the beginning of week 5.

in the last two weeks there really isnt any bud growth anyways. Is it a sativa or indica? cause 11 weeks flowering sounds like its a sativa.

its a random bagseed from my collection, who knows. i would definitely say its partially sativa based on the way the leaves look and how lanky it is.

I grow sativa almost exclusively and that just seems to be the trait of the sativas. I am presently in my 6th week of flowering and have very few fan leaves left. By the time I finish I usually am staring at bare bud so no worries, provided it is sativa. Good Growing

awesome, that pretty much confirmed my suspicions.

it took some restraint to try and over correct it, as soon as it started happening i just kept telling myself that the plant knows what its doing .. there were a few times i wanted to add a heavy dose of nitrogen in early flower but i decided against it.

another question, how much size (not weight) do the buds lose during drying? if i'm looking at colas a little wider than a cigarette box, how much smaller will they get when they're fully dried and cured? i realize there isn't an exact answer, i'm just looking for a general estimate.

i think the buds will lose 70% of there weight after dried

correct 70& so if i was you i would start giving your plant molasses so it will fatten up and keep a good taste to your buds and size

I use molasses as well and some carbo load too Its going to be interesting to see what it will taste like, and apparently there are living cultures in molasses.

apparently there are living cultures in molasses.

not quite...
the microbes are a symbiotic part of the root growth and form what is known as the rhizosphere. they use the molasses as food/fuel. their good health means better root abosorption of macro/micro nutrients...

cheers

You did good by showing restraint on the nutes. As a general rule, purely general and I am sure there will be many dissenters, sativas are light feeders. They grow quickly and spindley and take 12 to 20 weeks to flower, they just don't get in a rush. A good balanced soil, with good organic matter, a little manure tea and molasses is all most sativas need to grow beautifuly.
In answer to your question about lose of size to the bud, actually very little volume if dried slowly and then cured slowly. Your buds will use 60 to 70% of weight though. IMHO drying quickly will cause more loss of volume than a slow process, just my taste and opinion. Happy Growingbongsmilie
