Week 2 flower, general questions

Being in week 2 of preflower now I notice there is so much growth under the canopy getting very little light if any. Should I be pruning it off a little at a time or should I just wait until week three when I plan to do a full defoliation?

Also Im not really sure how ppm works if someone could try and explain it to me? how important is it in soil?


One last thing what height should i have the light at during preflower and flower? close as possible or high as possible?

I would not defoliate.

Ppm is a measurement of you nutrient mix. Good to measure this if your just starting out and keep notes for future grows.

Keep your lights just high enough so your canopy temp stays below 80F.

So why not defoliate I thought all the stuff under that isn't getting light is just a waste?

Nope, I like having expendable reserves down low that also act as first indicator of mobile nutrient issues.

All my larf gets made into hash or oil. No trimming.

I don't I let them fill up and by the next day it's all gone and adsorbed into roots

I've heard that without the previous feeding's leftover nutes being washed away, you'll get 'salt buildup'.
Have you heard about this?

I've never had that problem. Only nute burn I got is when one of the hose on my drip line poppped and nute water sprayed all over the leaves and burned some lol

Because the spectrum of light that drives photosynthesis is invisible to the naked eye and does penetrate a little better than you think. Those leaves hold mobile nutrients that can be relocated to bud sites.
