Ways to get co2

Hi I am new to growing and I am curious if their is an alternative to buying a co2 tank and routing tubes to release co2... someone told me that you can spray the plants with a spray bottle... They were very vague of what would be in the bottle and when to do it... Can someone please explain or tell me what to do =) thanks in advance
