so i just planted my seeds in a soil mixs. do i water now. I know i don't give them nutes till week 4 or 6. but do i water right after. please help

im only new to this but it would make sence to water them straight away, they need light, water and air to survive, theyre not going to have much luck in dry soil...

in soil, i found that it's better to water it in before i place any seeds in the soil strictly for the reason that sometimes i have found that if i do a heavy watering after i plant the seeds, they can either float away kinda or get really covered over with more soil than i would have liked to do originally be the big wave of water and soil that comes after a big watering..
saying that though, not too sure how much soiless mix is going to move around like soil does after a nice watering...

if you watered them before you planted them, you should be good for now depending on how big of a container that they are in... the trick is to put a finger into the medium, and if it feels dry down about an inch or so, water them till you get a good amount of run off out of the bottom of the pots.. before you water them when you think they need it, pick up the pots so you can get an idea of how heavy they feel when they get dry, this way after awhile, you can pretty much tell by the weight of the pots instead of having to get your finger all dirty, lol.. either way though, just the weight way takes a lil time to get a feel for them is all..

i'm a newb, but what i do is get a little spray bottle and squirt it several times worth. i prefer that instead of just straight pouring water on to them, cause like someone mentioned you don't want to disturb the soil so much that the seed gets washed up. i've been just misting the soil like that thruout the day (mine are in peat pellets) and they've been doing great

Moisten soil prior to seed placement. Afterwards, water slowly and thoroughly... don't pour a stream from a jug of water a foot above in other words; use a flavor injector or oral syringe or otherwise drizzle the water on the soil. Keep doing it until you have run-off. Now you shouldn't need to water at all for several days (up to a week).

You will probably have better luck starting out by germinating your seeds prior to planting in dirt instead of planting the seeds in dirt.
After germing put the seedlings into dirt that is between moist and wet. I mix half-strength nute water with my potting soil and get the soil
wet enough to form a dirtball. The wetter soil helps support the weak stem as well as eliminating watering concerns for about 3 days.
Then water a few ounces every day by dribbling the water around the stem.

Good luck, BigSteve.
