Water,some advice for hempy bucket please

Hi i have read loads of posts concerning hard water, also about the simple hempy buckets, which appeals to me, that there is no need to adjust ph or nutes ppm, some info from experience, i:hump: would be greatful

I ran hempy buckets for 5 years and if you ph your water first you will see big rewards. It is true you do not need to check ph, but only if you want marginal results. Hempy will even tell you that he ph'd his water and checked ppm's. I tell you this from experience, buy the meters, they are the best money u will ever spend.

I have been growing in hempys for a couple of years now. I never bothered to check the PH of my water for a long time because I read the same information as you that it was unnecessary to do so with hempys. I never had any issues and completed many perpetual cycle grows with the three original strains I started with.

The only time I ever had problems was when I recently started 3 new strains from seed in hempy cups. Though I am unsure if those issues were related to PH, or to the seedlings needing a weak nute feeding due to the inertness of the perlite and vermiculite hempy medium, but I got it straightened out, and the new girls are doing great now.

My advice would be that it can’t hurt to check and make sure your PH is in an acceptable range if you want to be sure you are taking the best care of your plants you can. Then you will less likely to encounter problems, and if you do have issues it will make it easier to diagnose them if you already know the PH is right.

Thanks so much, great reply...so i will get myself a ph meter and some hard water nutes, so i can reduce the amount of ph down used? my hard water should be ok out of tap with high ppm?...thanks again for the uk...waiting for monday night football on the bbc ! another late one for me. thanks also goes out to 2broke2smoke and anyone else that replys
 
How often do u need to water a hempy until the roots reach the bottom? I've always wanted to try a hempy, but I'm apprehensive because of this and also do u feed them nutes every watering?

You’re welcome, glad to help.

Purchasing a ph meter is definitely a good idea.

It is fine to use tap water for the most part. I use it for my clones, mother plants, and flowering plants. Just be sure you leave it sit out without a lid on it for at least 24 – 48 hours to let the chlorine and other harmful chemicals evaporate before using it.
For tender seedlings I use store [FONT=&quot]bought[/FONT][FONT=&amp] RO water just to make sure I’m using the best option available, as they are more delicate then the grown up plants.

For nutes I simply use the General Hydroponics Flora series three part formula throughout the grow, and have had great results, though I would recommend to use a little weaker strength dose for each part then is recommended on the label, but this will vary from strain to strain, and you have to experiment a bit to get it dialed in for your situation.[/FONT]

That depends on several factors, such as the size of the container and the medium you use, and the temperature. You will be the best judge of when they need watered. You don’t want to let them get too wet and over watered or under watered either. You will quickly learn when to water by picking up the pots and feeling the difference in weight between wet and dry, or simply just looking at the medium and being able to tell from experience. Once the roots hit the res they take off very fast, it is pretty amazing. The growth is explosive in hempys.
One nice thing about hempys is it is impossible to overwater due to the simple hole in the bucket that regulates the res level.

I micro grow in small hempys, and keep my mothers and vegging plants in solo party cups. I usually water every other day.

I was feeding my plants every watering, but have recently started giving plain water every third or fourth watering, because I believe it is beneficial to wash out built up salts and stuff.

The best thing about hempys is how simple they really are, great for a beginner.

I'm in the in the infancy of my 1st try at Hempy. It's been easy so far. I use water straight out of the tap and PH it to around 6.0 - 6.3. I use cheap orchid grow fert and it doesn't drop the PH much but most hydro ferts do. So you may only need to make adjustment every so often once you get going. Like skater said check out the world of hempy thread. You'll get better info than mine.

I watered twice daily the 1st week then once a day after when mine were in party cups. I have them in 1gals now and watered every other day to ever 3rd day atm. You want to give give them nutes from the get go. I've done a couple of water only feeds but the rest have been 1/4 strength ferts. So far its been a super easy method of growing.
 
I'm doing my very first ever hempy grow and it really hasnt gone like I would have hoped. I transplanted into a 5 gal bucky of perlite and vermiculite 3-1 but it took forever for the roots to make it down to the reservoir so when I flipped my other plants and this one to 12-12, it was still very small and still is 7 weeks later. Its got like 3 buds on it :) But they ARE very nice looking. I'm gonna try to reveg it. Has anybody ever had any experience in revegging a hempy bucket?

you will know when the roots hit the res when u get the growth spurt, u will absolutely know when it happens cause they seriously take off.




@ la dodger,

Have you considered an RO or at least an dual carbon filter for the hard water?

Dual carbon filter? is that like brita water filter, r/o out of the question, budget and maintenece..please tell me more..

I am referring to a filter that is a no loss filter not an R.O. filter. Most cites water treatment facilities add ammonia to the chlorine to make chlorimine which will not bubble out with an air stone, chlorimine must be removed with a carbon filter, much like a britta I assume, as I have no experience with a britta, but I do know the water here in Detroit has chlorimines in it so I found a 2 cartridge carbon filter and hooked it up to my water supply. Before filter my water comes out the tap at 127 ppm @.5 conversion after filter i read 105ppm. These filters do not strip cal/mag from water either more a drinking water filtration system.
