water farm

I would like to try a water farm single plant possibly double but i was wondering if one 400 watt mh would be enough or should i go bigger.. input please. and are those systems restricted to one plant per unit???

400w mh is plenty enough for one plant. If you get a nice reflector and some mylar you can make the light carry pretty well. Right now im vegging 3 under a 150w hps and 7 under 2 more 150w hps and ive got my clones under 4 13w cfls. so you could get away with like 8-10 plants if you wanna push it.

thanks man cause i dont wanna spend a ton on lights but i also wanna go bigger on plant set up do you know how many plants you can do in one of those waterfarm setups??

Not sure what you mean exactly, usually it is one plant per unit....they have a Waterfarm 8pk deal somewhere around here (on the 'net), it was called ladybugindoorgardens...google it and you'll see what i mean

Just my .02 man,

If you can only have one light, choose an HPS. It'll veg or flower just fine.

The Waterfarm system, with separate reservoir, control bucket with float valve and then buckets for each plant with plumbing for all, is unnecessarily complex.

Tray based flood systems are much simpler, easier to clean and highly reliable.

Minimal plumbing, no valves, can't clog. Very cheap, too.

Trays for small grows can be made from any number of dollar-shop plastic containers. Underbed storage tubs make dandy trays for 10-12 plants, which would suit a 400W HPS SoG grow. Bigger grows are better off with moulded plastic trays from the hydro shop. I pay $53 or so for a 900x900mm tray.

On that ebb and flow setup do you runb an airstone in the reservoir ? Does the water get aerated enough dripping back ? What do you set the timer for ? What do you put the plants in ? ie. rockwool ?

yes, tank aeration helps quite a lot.

What do you set the timer for ?
Watering frequency is dependent on the type of medium used. The duration required is only long enough to raise the flood level to the overflow, then pumps are shut off.

What do you put the plants in ? ie. rockwool ?
Pots can be stuffed with RW floc, Fytocell, perlite, pellets, etc. Floc is highly absorbent and can only be watered 1x/day (@ lights-on). Fytocell & perlite can be watered 2-3x/day depending on the size of the plants. Pellets hold almost no water and can be watered 5x/lights-on, long enough to raise the flood to the overflow, then pumps are shut off.
