That water thread got me thinking about this. There are more like it. This blows me mind, any insight on what's happening?

Yes, his camera takes pictures at 24Hz. So you can "see" the beat frequencies.

I figured it was something with the camera. Like watching a strobe light or something. Crazy optical illusion.

It's funny you brought it up, though, because I was just discussing this very topic (indirectly) with @Pinworm in his Horrorshow grow thread. You should check it out, he's got his own optical illusion in there that'll twist your doobie a little tighter.
The next episode will be even crazier, I imagine.
