Warehouse Grows

A friend of mine works for a dispensary that owns one of the largest warehouse grows in Denver. He gave me a tour of the grow last weekend and it was quite an eye-opener. In all my years of growing, I have never seen plants in such bad shape. It really makes me think twice about buying bud from dispensaries. Hopefully most of the other warehouse grows aren't run by borderline criminals who don't know how to grow, have no pride in their work, and only care about the bottom line. Does anyone have different experiences with warehouse grows? I'd like to think that at least some of them are state-of-the-art facilities run by guys who know their stuff. Or maybe I'm wrong...

It has a lot to do with so many plants, and not enough time to take care of them all. It's easy to slack off, plus when you're making serious bank, it leaves little motivation to improve a shitty, yet effective, process.

I don't roll like that, so that's only a guess.

Prob won't make ya feel any better but. I have only one warehouse experience myself, and it goes much like yours. Got a job trimming for these guys, and the place looked like complete shit. Literally dirt trash hydroton etc just fucking EVERYWHERE. Place was a mess. Not to mention the plants. Mites and powdery mildew on pretty much every one. And the guys response when I was like..... Uh.......??? Oh it's cool man, that's no big deal, just go ahead and trim it, it'll dry up fine.

I know growing large scale comes with it's own issues....such as mites and pm.....but when buds have areas like covered in white shit...I don't think thats chill.

Anyways, that job didn't last long. bongsmilie

I have seen one commercial warehouse type set up, it belongs to a member here...... Things look healthy and happy just like a small garden on a much larger level. This is not one of the biggest grows in denver, actually a pretty small one for the current times, but run with immense amount of pride and care for what they do. The have had the bugs, the PM and most of the other issues what come with growing large scale, but they have succeeded in solving the problems and making sure they have the best meds around.
I do believe that many of the larger grows do suffer terribly, but they are not in it for the love of the plant, just the money. You can tell this by prices and customer base most of the time..... and other things like the letting you come and see the gardens, giving free seeds etc, being all around open about how you do things from start to finish.
Damn i really need to call Cole soon, thanks for all the help man!

Yeah im in Fort Collins and have seen the same thing. Sickens me to telll you the truth. My partner that runs that tells me that I need to quit being a connesuier and go bottom line of product out put! Then he sees my final product and is like damn you turn it out!
I agree that the small growers have the best meds. When the people want the best they will find it.

Not all warehouse gardens are total shit holes. Although there are a number of them that are. Like anything else, it depends on the owner and staff that run the place.
You would be hard pressed to find a single piece of hydroton on the floor of our place, and it's 10k sq feet. It's about having a little pride in your work.

Thats why small time growers have the best bud.
Sorry to pop your bubble...but like warehouses it depends on the grower. I've seen some pretty rank bud come from all levels.
I've seen great bud as well, but I'm just saying that a small garden does not guarantee awesome :)

true, it doesn't guarantee awesome, but chances are higher that you will get some nasty from a "large" op... Some people just get in over their heads and some are just out for profit,,, then there are a few diamonds in the rough who have it all on lock. I would like to think if I ran a large op it would be just as nicely kept as my current room.

it's interesting from my perspective, that I've heard from several growers/owners/investors/city and state inspectors over the past few months and in the last few weeks in particular, that a number of warehouse grows they see in the 1000 sq' - 60,000 sq' size would not be called acceptable growing standards for any agricultural venture - lots of complaints about unclean/unsanitary conditions, bug problems and mold/mildew issues (of course, unclean leads to the other issues in the first place and makes irradication almost impossible, so the problems continue and multiply). the next few months should see a shake out of the industry as these types of unprofessional and dangerous (for the consumer) entities are shut down. I look forward to it, so patients can feel safer in the medication they are buying/using.

i've also had a few members from various boards and patients tour my facility, while not the best way to keep pests and problems at bay, it was a way for them to see how a larger scale operation can work and to verify for themselves how their meds are being grown - hide nothing and show everything, immediately deal with problems in a safe, consistant and timely manner. of course now, the new MMED rules kinda prohibit me from doing this anymore, sux IMO. but I plan on linking my cams for our patients so they can see anything at any given time, should be pretty cool.

I have built quite a few warehouse grows and currently manage two for a center in CO. I humbly submit to the crowd that they are examples of clean well run facilities with caring and passionate staff that are turning out some really fine product. We take pride in our work and never sell anything we wouldn't use ourselves, which is to say that there are sometimes issues. I've thrown out a lot of product in my career - BIG losses. If a grower tells you they never have problems with PM or bugs he/she is either lying or hasn't been doing it for very long. We employ constant preventative measures to keep common issues at bay. I have learned the hard way over the years that preventative is the key. In so doing you don't have to use any of the nasty stuff. I know about four other warehouse growers that run tight ships and produce fine product. And I have no doubt that there are some shit shows out there. I looked at some of them to buy prior to building out my last facility. And we all know there is a wide range of competency and quality in the thousands of home grows out there. It's no different in the warehouse grows. Best wishes to all. Keep growing and calling bullshit on the prohibition of this amazing plant. BTW: very few are making "serious bank" in the MJ Center world, one of the bigger myths of the industry.
