i want to add uva+b, blue, and far red to to my flowering room (currently running 4 1000w de hps, 25x8 room, girls take up about 22x6.5ish). i have looked at cmh and de cmh, but i wanted to get some info from the led camp. i like my des, but i really dont need the extra heat that adding more would produce, not to mention the cost of running them vs a led setup. i am very behind the times on leds (last one i used was 6-7 years ago and it sucked), but theyve obviously come a long way since i last looked into them. i see a lot of growers kicking ass with these cobs. i already have a uva+b light in mind (agromax pure uv t5), but i am looking for some suggestions on lights for the blue and far reds. my diy skills are limited, so prebuilt fixtures are preferred.

if you are gonna add T5 for uv, why not a few actinic bulbs too? that's what i supplement my 3K cobs with.
is the coverage area and penetration sufficient for my space? the girls get pretty big. it seems that penetration isnt as much of a concern with the uv bulbs. im not entirely opposed to using fluoros for the red and blues, but id prefer something that doesnt need to be replaced as often. thats why my first thought was cob or led. i will look into actinic though, looks like theyre marketed toward marine aquarium folks

there are led actinics but they get pricey. check out bulkreefsupply.com

i'm cheap and had t5 fixtures laying around.
looking into these now. they have a couple 6' strips of blue that might work, but then id need to find a red source too. if i went that route, i could rig something up to fit between my de lights provided the new ones are roughly the dimensions of a t5 or led strip. ive got some room in my budget right now, so im down to spend a few bucks if it will improve my product.

ive also been looking at a prebuilt timber 3vl w/4000k 90 cri cobs in it. anyone have any experience with using this configuration for supplemental red+blue spectrum?

If you want uv, Agromax Pure t5 is probably the way to go or a reptile bulb. Uv diodes aren't there yet.

be careful with them. they will melt your leaves.
i run mine about 15 mins on once or twice a day.
thats what ive heard. do you think one t5 would be sufficient for a canopy that is roughly 10x5 or so if it was hung about 2.5-3' above it? or should i double them up?

I would use 2 for sure. They have the UV levels listed on their site for different heights and diff tent sizes.

yeah like @Aolelon said 2 is better. i'd probably do 2 4ft t5 singles so you have a bit more flexibility instead of one t5 with 2 bulbs in it.

thanks, i appreciate your inputs.

im still looking into the whole reds and blues thing though. so far, the contenders are either some 4000k 90 cri cobs or a couple of led strips (actinic makes a blue would probably work, havent found a suitable red yet). anyone have any better ideas?

A better idea would to not add blue because it causes photo-inhibition and to not add far-red (730nm) because HPS already has quite a bit and more will just cause stretch.

I'd see supplementing with 4000k cobs as just adding more light in general rather than supplementing.
