Although I can't speak from experience, I also just started using the Vivosun bases/bags this month. I bought them as a package deal from their website, 4 bases - 5 bags.
I went ahead and put water in the bases right away but have also been watering from the top. I have them indoor and the two plants are doing great at 23 and 16 days.

Well first off they are not Autopots but Vivosun Self Wicking pots, major difference. Autopots have a reservoir and are gravity fed to their trays. The trays have valves that regulate the water amount the plant will absorb, then refill on their own.
Self wicking pots well they hold about 3/4 gallon of water/feed and wicks sit into the water. The wicks sit under the fabric pot using capillary action to absorb water and transfer to the plants medium. I have heard good things about them. The most negative is the wicks tend to clog a bit and require maintenance about every 2 - 3 weeks (pull out, wash, or replace) I made a DYI set up similar and it did the job. Washing the wick is not a major or replacing it.
Get you a 25' strand from ZON and your set for a long time. Use either 1/4 or 3/8 inch thickness and you should have no major issues.
With the Vivosun wick pots, it's nice they have the fluid indicator level versus looking every day. They are sturdy as well from what I have heard. Spyder Farmer has similar, but they do offer a feed system for theirs, somehow it only allows water into the trays as needed as it uses one main valve box and feeds from the box to each pot. I have never heard much about them, but I like the fact of the reservoir and it feeds itself!
Myself I use autopots indoors, and it was the best investment I made. My firs grow between 2 plants was almost a full lb. Everything was the same as my first grow with 4 plants, but the auto watering system just showed me the plants loved being able to drink when they wanted to and not when I was going to feed. Plus it is great to be able to have more time for your self versus hand watering. The other benefit is you can dissapear for a week or more. 12 days was the most for me, my system just kept chugging onward.
Good luck in your decision. If Vivosun would sell 2 packs of those, I might have them already, but have no need for 4 units, as I don't grow that many anymore when indoor growing, just with Autopots, the plants consume my tent. But it would be nice to have a couple of the Vivosuns Wick Pots for my outdoor stuff!
