Vitamin C powder as ph down and dechlorinator?

Anyone try? I read 40 mg will dechlorinate 1 gallon and as side effect lower pH too which would be good for me as my tap is 7.5.

Ascorbic acid is used by some to lower pH. It will not have any harmful effects on your plants.

I tried to link the pdf but it didn't work. Google search "The Function and Metabolism of Ascorbic Acid in Plants". It's a rather interesting paper.

"Given the pivotal role of ascorbate in photosynthesis and its possible role in cell division and expansion, it is suprising that so little is known about its metabolism. Further investigation of ascorbate biosynthesis and its role in cell growth are needed. There is now scope for molecular genetics to complement biochemical and physiological approaches. We may then be in a position to increase the vitamin C content of food plants and possibly enhance their tolerance to photo-oxidative stress."

I'm going to try it and report back.

Yeah found that paper. Dr Smirnoff. Also found this, but is anyone using it and can report effects? amounts? I played with the powder tonight. And its powerful as a pH down. One teaspoon brought down 2 gallons of tap @7.5 pH to 3.5 in seconds! I'm gonna pH down with it and add molasses for a snack. we will see.

Prefer Alaska Ph enhancing crystals ( 100% citric ) over PH down ( bottle still full ).

Citric acid came to my mind too. Might be cheapest to just buy citric acid powder. It's used for cooking

Yup. No idea how much would be needed to drop the PH, but I'm sure that 5 pounds will last a while

Oh ya, It will last awhile. I don't use it often, but 1/16 tsp per gal brings my 7.4 pH well water down to around 6.5. You have to figure out how much you need depending on your water.

So basically I shouldn't ever have to buy it again. It's also an ingredient in some of the gummy recipes on here. Making gummies is on my to do list.

I bought citric acid at the supermarket in the bulk isle. I use it for canning. I'm going to stick with phosphoric acid for pH down.

flushed 2 plants last night with the powder as Ph down and molasses. The plants are smiling today and not dead. so....

I know 1/2 teaspoon citrus powder drops 7 gallons of mash to 5.5 ph

its the same. like 1/10 of a tsp cut a gallon from 7.5 to 3.8

Now i don’t know if this is a stupid question but would lemon juice do the same thing as citric acid? Or does the lemon juice have other stuff that isn’t good for the plants? Not really having an issue with ph atm just trying to learn as much as I can.

Do you know how much to use? i need to bring my water down like 2pts maybe more

Does anyone know how stable citric acid is when dissolved in water? Would it be feasible to make a concentrated solution to add to nutes, even if it was only good for a relatively short time? It seems like that would be easier to dose than the powder.
