So I have these iceled xtra ultra heatsink fan combo for my Vero 29 [email protected] (3 total 210 watts) and it's putting out a lot of downward heat while the heatsink is completely cool. Already made a thread about lowering fan speed because these are jet engines but what I'm really wondering about now is the star design of the heatsink. The middle doesn't completely cover the backplate of the cob meaning if I look through the fins from the top or side I can see some exposed areas where I put thermal grease. Now I'm not a cob expert but from working with cpus I'm pretty sure I would have had some fried cpus if I used this heatsink on them. Is this exposed area a problem for cobs? Anyone have experience with these or know a different choice for fan/heatsink combo of similar size?
Rather not replace these but if my cobs aren't supposed to be outputting this much downward heat I will. The heatsinks on cutter look similar size but without fan and says it's only for Cree, pretty sure I can drill it myself if I have to and at least the bottom seems like it would conduct heat better but I don't know if it's an improvement. Anyone care to share how much their builds put out in downward heat? At 16" above I go from 75f with my other lights on to 82-84f with 3/4 to full power cobs on. This is in a tent with good exhaust and intake although I don't have a fan on the plants and the rest of the tent outside of the direct line of the lights is quite cool.
