I'm in the beginning stages with my grow room. Its 3x3x8 plan on using a 400hps. I plan on using a DIY bake a round cool tube.

I also need a carbon filter and plan on doing a DIY one inline with my cool tube. This will be my only exhaust. Would this work. It'll be filter>cool tube>inline fan>exhaust

This is a setup where smell would be an issue inside and out. Would like some input from some experienced growers.

If smell is going to be an issue then don't DIY a filter.

By buying a brand filter you know the airflow its rated for and can match an adequate fan to run it.

Your exhaust system will work just fine.

I use a 400w and I would highly recommend using a 6" fan and filter setup with around 250CFM or 500m3/h.

Cost is an issue as well. I'm a licensed refrigeration/hvac tech. I think I can set it up myself. If it gets too smelly during flower I might have to purchase a better filter

Just save yourself the hassle and buy a carbon filter. They aren't that expensive.
