ventilation issues in closet grow

im growing in 2 separate closets that are both 6'x3'x6'H and i am planning on using a 400w MH for the veg room and a 600w HPS for the bloom room.

i dont understand why i need to get the cooled hoods and buy 200 dollar fans. Cant i just attach a normal 12 inch desk fan to a wall 6 inches from the light facing toward the light.

i also dont understand why it would be a problem for the bulbs themselves to heat up. i know they will give off alot of heat but cant i just keep the whole room well ventilated with 3 or 4 12 inch desk fans attached to the walls and a rotating fan inside as well?

will the bulbs explode of they arent cooled or something?

you need the ventilation to change the air. if the room has no external source of fresh air then all you are doing is recirculating stale (and possibly hot) air.

yea i know the room needs fresh air but do i need to cool the bulbs themselves. is there anyway the bulbs can overheat and something bad can happen

i'm sure there is always a possibility 'bulbs can overheat and something bad happen' no matter what precautions you take.

have you experimented with how much your lights heat up your rooms?

nah i dont actually have the grow room set up yet i was just wondering why everyone would rather buy a 200 dollar special fan instead of a 25 dollar one that does the same thing or 4 or 5 desk fans would still be cheaper and do alot more than a 200 dollar 8 inch fan or whatever. i mean i just cant see that much of a benefit from spending that much money on a fan

you pay the extra money because in the end you can have your light so much closer to the plant making for a much better yield(IE no stretching and and quicker finishing times. So actually in the end it will pay for its self. And If you have the cash for a 400 and 600watt set up then what is the deal with not wanting to buy the 150$ can fan? Pay the cash and do it right and in the end you will be much more content. Good Luck.

you will, if you have heat/humidity problems. you just gonna have to go with what you think will work and make any changes to problems that arise.

The zeroth law of thermodynamics is that if A (light)has more energy (heat in this case) than B (air), the flow flow of energy will be from A to B.

Now the obvious part is dun with, the bulbs get FUCKING HOT!!. and i doubt very much that the air will be able to lose that energy via B to C ( air to other shit that will be cooler, and coold by outside i.e the walls).

The temps will go sky high unless ure room is massive, and ures is not.

Plus CO2 needs to be exchanged and the 02 out.every 5 mins needs at least one full room change. and thats without heat problems... which your guna have mate.

The good side is that you dont need to spead shitloads on fans... just get a decent cheap bathroom extrator fan and sum 6'' hose to vent air from the top of the room, and have a 5 '' intake nearish to the bottem so theres still -ve pressure inside the closet and therefoer no smell will escape apart from out your fan. just make a carbon scrubber.

ive got a bathroom fan ( about 150 cfm) with that set up venting and extracting from my attic. you dont NEED a cooltube, but they hep get the light alot closer... look up how to make one with the shit ive just said if u want the advantages .

Good luck
