Yeah IDK how the people that really care about that kind of stuff would interpret that. I feel like it seems the same as harvesting milk from a cow or something. You're taking them out of their natural environment into an "artificial" one to harvest something created in their bodies...interesting to think about though.

To be fair I am not fully vegan. I do eat eggs and dairy, and fish on occasion. For me it is more of a goal that I am striving for, and trying to implement a sustainable and clean indoor growing method. I would eventually like to replace peat in my mix as well bc I know that is not sustainable long term either.

I was originally interested in Kyle's line of nutes until he admitted there's about a 7-10% of synthetic stuff in it to extend the shelf life. I'm trying to be as organic as possible. I'm not a vegan either but it's gonna be a fun experiment to grow that way. I've heard people argue wether the EWC are truly vegan or not..my opinion is the worms are like bee's of the dirt. They play a major role in the forest floors decomposition and don't anything else then to wiggle around eating and pooping out gold.

We are on the exact same journey my friend. I spent about 6 mos researching this over the winter.

I have one friend who is a master grower who had converted his whole op to this method @ 10 yrs ago (he was thinking he would be able to get a premium for vegan herb but I dont think at least where he lives ppl were willing to pay any more). He has since switched to more of a biodynamic living soil setup, but was able to get me pointed in the right direction.

Initially I wanted to just buy the BAS LOS Vegan Mix, but with shipping its not cost effective. But he had the Pinto Bean compost alone w a free shipping deal. I figured that, plus the DTE Veganic mix + EWC + some lime would be a good starting point food wise and I can tweak it as needed.

I am not trying to recycle my soil between rounds, at least not atm. So will have a few attempts at this and will adjust based on results from previous batches (and most likely your results as well!).

My goal is to make some sorta hybrid of vegan super soil/living soil. Eventually once I have the space would be to run indoor raised beds of vegan living soil. I have outdoor beds but they're not vegan. Depending on how this all goes I'll convert them over as best I can.

Went on BAS site to order some more of the pinto bean compost so I had some for my next batch of soil, and to use for teas. Sold out.

Emailed them and they arent sure if they are going to restock it.

However they do have a new Light Soil mix which is veganic, uses the pinto bean compost, and priced really well. Even shipped its only a little more than FFOF retail prices. Anybody in LA wanna split a pallette so we can get free shipping lol?
