UV Sterilizer for top off rez?

I need a way to sterilize my top off rez. Problem is that I'm using hydroguard, so I don't want to kill that off. I noticed that bacteria can form in there and sometimes it goes down the water line and clogs the float valve preventing the system from topping off. I did order a 1/2" valve (vs 1/4" currently) to widen it up though.

So I was thinking of small amounts of h202, or frozen water bottles, but then I remembered UV sterilizers. Does anyone have one that they use for a similar situation? I see I can get one relatively cheap for around $30. Seems like a good way to keep the top off rez sterile and not harm the good bacteria in the system itself. Any thoughts?

why not use hydroguard in there too?
Because from my experience it 'grows' or something is growing in there and it creates a mass that clogs the water line float valve and the system does not top off correctly. I have to remove it and clean it out. I did add a sort of filter just now in the bulkhead fitting prior to the water line to stop any gunk. But I also don't want to proliferate any bad bacteria in there and introduce it to the system if possible.
