Using rocks to help drainage

i wanted to try to use rocks(sedimentary specifically) to help with the drainage, anyone have experience with rocks, i don't have access to perlite, and all those other things, just normal potting soil, regular dirt, and tons and tons of round rocks.

I've never used rocks myself but, I'm going to this summer on my outdoor grows. Put the rocks (gravel) in the very bottem of the bucket for drainage, I don't think it would be a good idea to mix rocks in with the soil, but I guess it could work like hydron rocks.....? Good luck

i was just going to use some rocks that are nearby, and put the large ones at the bottom, and the very small ones at the top around the plant stem, it also serves as a decorative thing ;)

I usually put a nice 3-4" layer of rocks in the bottom of all my containers. Lately I've been using leca stones (clay balls) because they are much lighter & they were given to me for free, otherwise I'd still be using rocks.

I have a question on that. I was wondering if it's hard on you roots for transplanting, or do you just use the 1 pot?
If you do transplant, what's the best way to do it without damaging the roots?

i think all people should just start off with a 5 gallon pot, so transplanting more than once or twice can be avoided

I like to transplant, that way I know how much water to give them and don't end up soaking the bottem of the pot and the plant not getting to it and causing mold and shit, also I find that it I don't get any shock from it like some others, it actually gives it a growth spurt for me as the roots have a new place to go, more roots = more vegitation. just my 2 cents on that
