Using Fishtank Filters as Carbon Scrubbers?

Just wondering if anyones every tried those fishtank filter inserts that have the activated carbon in them. It's basically the same thing as the "2$ carbon filter" but it's already done for you. And I have them in my house already, so it's real convenient for me.

Try it out sounds like a good deal to me, sounds like it would be better for a smaller box

That's all the support I need to try it out. and all I have right now is a small cab. but I'd imagine if you had a bigger room you could still use it, just use multiple. Dunno how efficient on money it would be running 3 or 4 small filters rather than one large.
