~~(US Law) Buying Grow Supplies Online = Trouble?~~

Hey guys, fairly new member here so I hope this is in the right section.

Anyway, I've heard from a friend who is more knowledgeable about sorts of things concerning the law that:
"When you buy a growlight online your 'name goes on a list.'"

I'm very skeptical that this is true, but I'd like you guys' opinions as I was planning to buy lights online.
Anyone have any useful info?

It sounded pretty odd to me and just generally sketched me out.
I thought I'd get some more experienced opinions here though.
Didn't have any trouble buying seeds from Nirvana in 2011 though, so I don't see how it would be an issue buying lights.
Thing is, I'm buying lights and seeds at the same time. Should I be safely under the radar?

Seed in the mail can go wrong, but never does. U might get them taken by the post. Happens rarely.

But light are all good

I was planning on getting a nice HPS setup online, but I decided to end up going with making my own CFL setup from scratch.
I can get everything so much cheaper and better organized.

Absolute nonsense. Near tinfoil hat territory.

Only time your online activities will be tracked and logged and used against you to where it would matter is if you are already under investigation.

The current story that started this scare was a two state drug sweep that targeted people who bought grow equipment at a local stores in person, not online. The main couple in question, both ex-CIA agents, are suing the police and hopefully that will end that type of privacy assault.

that only happens when tripping on mushrooms more often to mushroom grows. actually ive seen this occurance happen more often than one would think just goes to make me say fear is a powerful thing.

Of course it's true! Sheesh ;D

The real question is what/which lists and who has access. Depending on how you paid there are 'lists/logs' there. Chances are good the site you purchased it through has a list of customer's purchases. Most eCommerce suites collect all this. But those lists are all about signal to noise ratio. Think of all the people purchasing stuff all over the US. Do you really think they would come after your single light or two grow?

Right now the DEA does not have the resources. Hell they are having to try and deal with WA and CO going full legal LOL! If you are not in a medical state than growing does contain a risk and I wouldn't put it past police to keep as much an eye on things as they can, but no, even if your data is harvested by NarusInsight there's to much volume most likely, for now.

I think it's smart to be cautious but it's a fine line between cautious and paranoid and there is no bright line. It all comes down to your personal risk aversion.

Green Merchant list late 80's early 90's. That is the only real list I know about. Didn't stop me then, won't now.
