Urgent! Need help!! Transplant gone wrong!! (pics)

Dear Fellow Members,

I just did the transplant that I originally planned last week and did as much research as I can before proceeding. So what happened was, I turned the plant upside down and patted the bottom so the plant would fall out. I did this for about 5 minutes and it still wouldn't budge, so i tried to assist it by loosening the soil on the sides a little with my hands and noticed that the roots were stuck to the pot! i gently pulled the clump of dirt and heard a "rip" sound and noticed that some of the roots were torn off!! Will this affect the plant? did i kill the plant?

So then, i immediately planted the plant back into the new bigger 3 gallon pot and noticed that the "main" stem had a bit of the white root showing... i covered it with more soil and watered it down. I actually watered down the soil in the new pot before transplanting.

Anyways, Is there any immediate action I should take right now?? Have i totally destroyed the plant??

i completely ripped the new roots off a clone and just stuck it in the soil again, and although it set it back a week, it was fine.

As long as most of the roots are still there its good....I've ripped a few off b4 cause they had grown around these ridges in the bottom of the pot....no harm done....some ppl actually trim up their roots when transplanting...they take a steak knife n saw off a little on each side and the bottom...they say it promotes new roots just like trimming the top of the plant promotes new growth.

Thank you all for the comforting words!

Ur plant looks good....it would b much happier w more perlite in ur soil....that soil doesn't look very drainable...looks kinda packed.

Im actually a noob at growing so i hope you dont find it stupid if i ask, what exactly is perlite and what does it do?

its some puffed up material that you find in the gardening section. Perlite helps water drain from your soil and it also keeps the mix lighter/ less dense.

its a must when using soil...its what Dan sd it is....I mix 50% perlite 50% soil...n a little compost but not enough to factor in.....it helps enable ur roots to breath (which they need desperately)...and make ur medium very drainable which is necessary as weed plants no like stand in soggy wet packed soil...ha....seriously tho u need it...u can transplant again w a perlited mix....or....just be very careful not to over water cause its easily done with no perlite in ur soil.....20121119_095812.jpg...all the white stuff h see here is perlite...I fkd up at first.n didn't mix enuff....had problems...started mixing in perlite w my soil batches as I transplanted n I've had no probs since.
