here in naples fl there is a legend of squally kids. the story i heard many years ago is that an old factory burned down back in the days of child labor and all the kids died in the fire. the legend is if you enter the property that a bunch of four foot dead squally kids will chase you away. i have gone out to equinox road which is the road the legend was born and was chased off by a man with a shotgun. we did see about 15 sets of red glowing eyes at the 4 ft height and these eyes were in the high brush. we were chased off before we could check into it. is there any other local myths out there?

there is one down by my way. apparently some bloke was hung in a tree near this hill (hangmans hill) and if u pull ur car half way up the hill and put ur handbrake on the hangman will push u up!

it actually does work (its an illusion) but is very fun. specially when ur high cos it is dark as fuck and very silent.

There is a similar hill in Lake Wales, Florida called Spook Hill (http://historiclakewales.com/spookhill/). Been to it a few times, its a pretty neat optical illusion.

Few scare stories about ghosts and such on the greenways nature reservation in Ocala, FL. I grew up by there and we used to wander the reserve at night, always saw/heard strange shit.

yeah i just moved from ocala. i never heard of that but on youtube they have a video and ive seen it on discovery about railroad tracks that are haunted from a bus of kids who died from a train in the 1950 and they put baby powder on their bumper and if you put the car in nuetral on your way up and over the tracks ghost kids will push you over the tracks and when you look at the baby powder there are little handprints. its crazy but i dont know where its at

Well, it was more Belleview area right by Belleview Santos elementary school. I grew up down the road near the Greenways project, my property was right on the edge of it, so we used to hop the fence and walk down to the old abandoned lime-rock mines. I think I explored just about every part of Belleview and Ocala growing up. Walked damn near all of it as a kid.

Edit: when I was younger I used to live in the historical district, had an old 'carriage' home that we rented. Most of the homes in the area were over 100 years old. Lot of friends had places with hidden rooms, closets that connected rooms and shit. It was fun as hell, some of those places were down right spooky too.

We have a school that supposedly was shot up by a crazy guy in the early 1900's and they say it was shut down because all the kids got murdered. Truth is it was costing too much money to maintain so they shut it down. It's pretty cool becasue if you sneak in there are all kinds of papers and shit scattered around the deans office.

There is also a railroad crossing where it is said a schoolbus got smashed by a train. They say that if you stop on the tracks and put your car in neutral your car will roll up hill and you will see kids hand prints on your windows. IDK about that one.

well if you go to new york and stay at the dolphin hotel in room 1408 you will go insane and either die or commit suicide within 1 hour of your stay in the room

There's a Gravity Hill in the Valley, off of Paxton. You take a two lane road all the way up into the back of the mountains, and at the very top there's a cemetery. Before you get to the top of the hill, you throw your car in N and you'll start to roll backwards at first, but it'll slow down...then you'll slowly start to go back up. You roll up hill and if you let it it'll push you down the other side.

They say if you turn your car off there it won't start. Never tried it myself, but my friend's brother tried it once and got stranded.

Every time I've been up there, something freakish has happened.

buts its true

Your in a post about urban myths and legends, so therefor its not true.

I love places like that, always wanted to visit abandoned asylums (a group called 'urban explorers' do this and take wicked pics, search 'urban explorer' on boingboing.net sometime) but only with friends, lots of light and a couple of bats.

Dunno what good they'd do me, but hell, better than nothing ;)

There's SUPPOSEDLY an old insane asylum up in those same mountains, I didn't mention it because I've never been there so I'm not really sure it exists. I DO want to check it out, but most of my friends are too scared. They start wigging out if I even joke about driving up that way when we pass it.

theres a you tube video about the railroad tracks

the squally kids are supposedly some truth to it cuz the myth has been alive since it supposedly happened. when i was checking it out i wasnt scared of the red eyes i was scared of the old man shooting at us when he chased us off. some locals say cuz hes so quick to chase you off that there is something to hide

I've heard my entire life that room #7 at the falcon motel on cape hatteras island is haunted by a man that was murdered there in the 60's

another about a racoon hunter that froze to death looking for his lost hunting dogs in the woods in a certain area near where I live around the turn of the century. People swear they can see him walking through the woods looking for his dogs with his lattern in the deep of winter. Over 1000 people have claimed to have seen it over the years. ..but ,...who knows. They also claim to hear the sound of hunting dogs that have something treed in the distance.

the gray man story. Story goes that if you see the gray man on the beach that he's trying to warn you of a wicked storm that's coming. People have claimed to see this gray man who apparently was a sailer who ran up on one of the many sholes on the outerbanks in the later 1800's. He's seen by hundreds of people before EVERY major storm in various states all along the east coast for the past century.

There are several. I'll think about more.
