upgrading light from cfls and having questions

SHORT STORY:
What are some of the differences between MH and HPS, Are certain situations better for one or the other?
what wattage what I need in a very small closet (3x3) to consider it an upgrade?
Should I be worried about heat issues? (Running a 740cfm fan)

LONG STORY:
I am trying To convince myself that I should upgrade my lighting. I just completed my first grow and came out with what I would consider a nice haul After cured (3.5)

The problem that I am running into is that I have always been one of the "don't try to fix it if its not broken" kind of guys

I will post pictures of my current setup with the lights I have. IM really looking for suggestions on what to replace it with...
I have access to very very affordable MH and HPS fixtures.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Well i fill the same way "if its not broke do fix it" but in this case i say go for it. a 3x3x? how tall. it will have to be at least 5ft. can you go bigger3.5x3.5x7[/FONT]
[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]if so a 400watt is what i would go with. MH is best for veg. where HPS is best for flower. if you can get them cheep get both you will find more room when you see the results. they also make HPS and MH combos one light does it all just change the bulb and flower. on the down side you will want to keep a extra bulb on hand if it should blow. you dont want your girls in the dark while you run all over to get one. And with that fan and fresh air coming in you shouldn't have a heat issue. now dont expect this your first grow with the new lights to get these resauts but most people shoot for the same grams as the watt of light they use. so if you use a 400watt light you can get close to 400grams in a scog. I would not go over 400watt in that small room. hope this helped. [/FONT]

MH and HPS are different in terms of light spectrum and generally it is considered that MH be used for the vegetation stage (growth) and that HPS be used for flowering. In a closet that size you could do 2 250w lights or 1 400w-600w light. Maybe look for a digital switchable ballast that can run both MH and HPS. Should get you off to a good start. Good luck! I like this set up alot I wonder if people would think mine is crazy lol anyways good job on it it should stay the same in my opinion

Hiya Waytoomanytoys, was that 3.5oz from 1 lady?? if so Cool! even if not its still a cracking Haul :bigjoint:

for first time.

Just a Rough Guide(different Bulbs/Ballest will be different)

30w CFL = 2000 lumens

150w HPS = 14000 lumens

250w HPS = 28000 lumens

400w HPS = 50000 lumens

600w HPS = 90000 lumens

I moved up to a 250w Hps/Mh setup from a 200w Giant Dual Spectrum CFL not so long back, was a itch I just had to scratch..my GR is similar size and Temps are not a Prob(mind you bloody Cold in UK at Mo) In the NewYear I'm upgrading to a 600w Digital setup and Vertical grow in same space..

Just take into account More Light(Lumens) = more Heat to deal with....

I hate to say it because I am liable to get flamed; I don't do HPS. I do MH the whole way through. Hurts me on yield but things stretch less and the comparison in trich production cannot be argued in my book. I tried both MH/HPS and MH/MH in the same setup with same genetics and hands down HPS=yield MH=always did me better on potency and trichs.

yes sir one lady. It was a fem nirvana n.l. I was super happy with the results! even with a few problems along the way i feel like i nailed it for the first attemt lol
