Undercover cops can't deny being police?

If you ask an undercover cop if he or she is a cop, they have to admit it. So I'm told.

I don't believe it, personally. My reason being that if it were true, there'd be no undercover police operations in the U.S.

Nevertheless, if I had a free pound of Afghan for every time some dealer has asked me if I was a cop or some jailhouse lawyer has assured me that police are required by law to blow their cover if confronted by that simple question, I would have more than enough bud to fill the trunk of a Volkswagen Jetta, I'll betcha.

If I'm wrong about this, I sure hope some great legal mind will set us all straight.

you can be detained without question, but undercover cops have to say they are cops if asked.

seems likely

Prove it. It's simply not true. A cop can lie to you all day, and they will to get what they want out of you. They will even tell you that if you give up your stash they will dump it out on traffic stops. Do it and see what happens.

I guess I just answered my own question by going to Snopes, although in this case, it's about an urban legend among hookers that undercover cops posing as johns can't deny being cops in order to carry out a sting operation.

So, if vice cops can lie, I doubt there's any law against narcs doing the same.

This was brought up to the Supreme Court. Not only do police officers not have to tell the truth in their duties, they have the legal right to lie to people. http://burneylawfirm.com/blog/2010/06/18/myth-2-cops-cant-lie/This was brought to court and determined that a police officer can use "whatever lawful means" to get what he wants. Now, technically, lying in most situations isn't against the law. Lying to a cop is, or lying in court is but a cop lying to you is a "lawful means" to get an arrest.

They can't even tell the truth when you get pulled over in a car. The whole job is a lie and every cop is a compulsive liar. Where in the world did this rumor come from?

It is not illegal to outright boldfaced lie to a cop!

I bet this rumor was started by an undercover cop talking to a drug dealer.

Cops lie all day. Everyday.

What makes you think they won't do it wearing a disguise?

There's a reason people become "jailhouse lawyers", and thinking undercover police officers' have to reveal themselves simply because you ask them to is part of it.

Cops can even do drugs and get away with it. The number of times you hear shit like "HOW THE FUCK WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW HE WAS A COP?! I'VE SMOKED BLUNTS WITH HIM BEFORE!"...

It's Law Enforcement. They don't play by the rules, they just enforce them.

That is the dumbest thing I've ever read on this forum. People think stoners are idiots because of stupid shit like this. Stop watching TV and read a book. I'd suggest one on critical thought.
