Uncle Bens topping technique gone wrong?

Well, maybe not a total failure, but it didn't do what I expected it to do. I was expecting to get new growth between the stem and the branches. All that happened was that the branches are now heading skyward.

Your probably not wrong, but I'm guessing you are stoned. lol If you look at the first picture in Ben's thread on his technique it looks like there is another set of stems growing out of the stem and branch. Maybe I'm wrong here in thinking that was a branch and that it's a fan leaf. My plant was quite big although it was only 6 nodes tall. This picture was taken a day or two after topping.

I've never done that topping technique, I've only read the tutorial. Looks like you whacked off too much. The pics in the tutorial show more stem after the node where the cut is performed. How long has it been since you chopped it?

The pictures were 2 days after. I think the picture in Ben's thread is of a much younger plant. Maybe only 3 nodes tall.

The tutorial says to wait until the plant is 5 or 6 nodes tall and then cut it after the second set of true leaves. My assumption is that by waiting until there are 5 or 6 and then cutting all the way back to the second is so that there are more auxins/growth hormones to redistribute. Again if you don't leave enough stem, then there's going to be nothing for the four new colas to grow from. You'll probably end up with two new ones, but maybe nothing since it was such an extreme cut and done what appears to be improperly.

My guess is that the auxins that would have been used to grow the new colas are being used on the lower secondary growth. That's why you see them shooting up like that.
