Ultimate "don't do" grow series.

I figured I'd post a grow doing everything wrong by RUI standards to put all the conjecture to the test and see how hardy these plants are at the end of the day. I have a feeling people overthink these plants a bit, and would like to put all these worries to the test.

Step one...potting mix from hardware store (Yates potting mix with lifter) mixed with slow release osmotic prills (7-2-13) and perlite. Not ideal at all. Tap water only.

Step Two...plant seed (bag seed from AK420) straight into 13L pot from the get go, apparently a big no.

Step two. Soak the whole 13L pot sodden to runoff, put in full sun and Wait for plant to appear. Apparently another big no.

Step three, put inside a 100x50x160cm tent with household bulbs (mixed 3000k/4000k, 64w) and then to top it off, run 12/12 from seed, a bad light cycle and inadequate light at around a DLI of 17.5.

Pretty much everything is considered wrong here.

Setup, 64w (12w per foot) at 20" from plant. Average 25c day, 10-12c at night.

Day seven, 15/8 since head popped. Watered again today with 2L tap water.

Will update weekly from here. Stay tuned for a gamble.

Mix used, but with a tbsp of dolomite and 30% perlite per pot.

Threw a three day old bag seed in there last night as well, Unknown background as I've ran out of space in the other tents. In a 5 gal pot, same medium, same technique (seed, water to runoff, wait). Looks ridiculous in that pot, as I usually leave them in a 1gal pot for two or so weeks.

Will post again on 22nd. Very interested to see when these will flower with 12/12 off the bat. Never grown photos indoors.

Light spectrum if anyone's interested
2x11w 2700k
2x11w 4000k
2x10w (6xIR, 6x450nm, rest 3000k)

Plan to change the 4x11w globes to 4x14w globes (I've got way too many spare) when both plants are happily flowering, but the goal is to stay with a single 6 way splitter and household bulbs the whole way through. When the going gets tough coverage wise, I will use two 3 way splitters and space them out a bit, keeping the same wattage over a larger area.

Update 21/8. Day 12 for AK bagseed and day 9 for the unknown bag seed.

Unknown

Kinda surprised tbh. There is almost no vertical growth. The AK is at day 12 or 13, and is pushing out its fifth node, with next to no spacing inbetween, and the side growth is already pushing out. The unknown seed is stacking straight out the cotys. Not what I expected..always assumed that plants stretch when not given enough light, but these are by far the most compact Seedlings I've had. I'd say these will be stunted and small considering the AK is at day 12 and only 2" tall.

The AK looks like an auto to me....first two nodes are single blade, the third is four and five blade, the fourth is five and six blade. The joys of throwing random seeds into a spare tent.

The soil has been kept sodden wet on the brink of runoff since they went in. Topped up every day until a bit comes out the drainage holes.

AK is popping out strange leaf discolouration. Not sure if it's the terrible medium, the insane amount of water or genetics. Has anyone had strange leaf discolouration like this before? We definately know it's not light stress lol.

We will see how the torture unfolds, but for now they don't seem to mind too much, apart from the slow vertical growth.

25/8, day 17/13

Gotta move into student accommodation for a few months so the AK will be going into a 60x50x130 closet for now with the 64w which should be adequate for the space.

The unknown bagseed is going to a neighbour for safe (ish) keeping. In other words it will be dust within a week or two lol.

Ak day 17. Has some funky colours. Does anyone know if this is a genetic issue or the $4 medium lol? The medium pH is 6.4, and only gets tap water at pH 6.8 right now. It sloping out node 6/7 as we speak, so it's growing as expected for a 17 day plant.

The bag seed is at day 12 or 13 now, but it hasn't really taken off. Be interesting to see if it catches up over the next 5 days.

Will update when settled in uni accommodation in roughly a week..
