two separate questions - hermies and leaf points

question #1:

how common is it for hermies to develop outdoors? from what i understand, it is mostly a problem with indoor growing? the reason I ask is i got my seeds from plants my cousin grew on her farm. today I was reading about hermies, and it got me all paranoid: i'm not sure if her plants went to seed because she didn't cut out the males, or because her plants turned hermie on her. on a post on the board, i read that seeds from hermies will produce hermie offspring 90% of the time. but then, in the FAQ it says that forcing a plant to turn hermie is an effective way of producing feminized seeds?

question #2

my plant (recently discovered to be male :? -- or hermie??) has a couple of weird leaves. one has 12 points (yep, an even number!) 9 of them are normal, but then there are three tiny ones that look like the leaf is too crowded for them so they kind of grow on top. what's going on with that?

can't post a pic. just tried to take one, but my camera battery is dead and i can't find my charger right now....

alright, here is an old pic of the plant. not the best for what i'm talking about, but i've circled one of the leaves with the extra points. the new leaves coming in look like they are growing extras too. again, 9 regular points, plus 2 teeny-tiny ones coming in on top of the leaf.
