More than 8,500 marijuana plants were seized by Tulare County sheriff's deputies and drug unit agents near Badger.
The crop was discovered at an extensive camp site during a routine flight over the area. It was covered with native vegetation for camouflage.
Detectives discovered a growing operation employing drip irrigation. A natural spring had been dammed and diverted to provide water for the grow site.
Suspects at the site fled as officers approached the the camp site Monday. Officers found firearms, rat poison, fertilizer and insecticides.
A total of 8,537 marijuana plants were removed. If allowed to grow to maturity the plants would have produced more than 8,500 pounds of marijuana. Street value of the crop could have exceeded $25 million, officials said.

The case remains under investigation.
