tubes or not?

I have only used the bubbleponics setup for the first time just recently and I will say that I will always use the tubes for atleast the first four weeks. the amount of rapid growth is insane. as far as clogging and causing problems I can not see this as an issue cause I ran mine until I could verify males and females. when I removed the males I removed the tubes and they had roots grown all the way to the pump through the tubes and they still flowed enough to function. after I started my setup a couple of my friends tryed to do the basic bucket setup without the pump and at first there success rate was about 50/50 until they figured out how to water the youngsters until the roots hit the water. then once they got it down they decided that the pump setup with feeder tubes was the way to go, less worrying about having to check and water a couple times a day. I have one friend that is doing a dwc aero setup that works fairly well but he had to spend like $90 bones for a timer for his pump and really I feel that the true bubblponics setup has more rapid growth. as far as coco goes I do not know of anyone that uses it in my area for what reason I dont know but they all like the rockwool.
