Trying to learn hydro

I'm sorta looking into hydro and wondering if this setup would be correct and if its not, what changes I would need to make.

It would be made in a rubbermaid container with a submersible water pump that would would spray on the growing medium, and an air pump setup to bubble over all the roots.

How often would I need to run the water pump? Would it depend on my medium? Like if I'm using clay pellets run the pump once every half hour or if I'm doing a medium that can hold more water then run it more like once every couple hours?

I know I should really do more research on this. I just want to make sure my understanding of how to build a hydro setup works. I know I can do wick, or flood, but this just seems more appealing to me.

Would the waterpump and the airpump be like using 2 system in 1 to the point where the bubble system is doing most of the work and the watering system wolnt be necessary? I htink I am thinking more of doing bubbleponics in that setup. Or could I just eliminate the bubbler?

You need both the airpump AND the water pump. If you are using clay pebbles without any other starter medium (plugs, rockwool) then you want to run the pump 24/7. This means the res. will get warm faster from the heat of the pump. You will need to use either a res chiller (high dollar) or frozen 2 liter bottles of water (low dollar).

Once the roots hit the res. then you can eliminate the water pump.... but you still want the airstones. You always want to keep the water/nute solution oxygenated.

I only have done soil and ebb and flow so I have no experience with drip or dwc but I would think that if you raised the water level to the bottom of your net pots and made sure you had a lot of air being pumped into the water you could ditch the drip and just use it as dwc.

ok thats sorta what I was thinking.....use the drip till the roots hit the bubbles then jsut go bubbles or keep the water level to the point the bubbles always hit the medium high enough that the roots get wet. I would like to keep it as simple as possible so being able to eliminate anything is good to me
