Hi all,
I love this website and am grateful for such a wise community of growers! I helped a roommate grow with an HPS in college years ago but only for a short period of time before moving out so I am still a relative newbie at this.
I have my card so I am fully legit in CA! Best $$ I ever spent! And like most card holders, I can grow legally now, but have found it too easy to just buy from the dispensary (although costly after a while).
Still, I did eventually want to grow at some point and as is the norm when you don't plan for something to happen, it does anyway! A buddy called me up last week and asked if I would want a plant that was "already budding." Of course I said yes and he brought it over. It had a Popsicle stick that said something Purple. I ended up transplanting it into some MG soil (I know, but its what I had) and a larger pot.
The story is that my buddy got it from his cousin who got it from someone who could no longer keep it. His cousin's wife objected so he had to give it to my buddy who has no clue about growing and lives next door to his parents anyway, so he was nervous about keeping it.
I went to work and started reading RIU like a banshee for the last week, made some trips to Lowes and set it up in a recently cleaned out cabinet in the garage. I am hoping for a 30-45 day timeline, but I will just play it by ear and will update this thread with pics.
The lights:
2x 42w 2700k - 2600 lumens (5200) I could have done the 1 large bulb at the top, but I liked the idea of 2 smaller bulbs.
4x 23w 2700k - 1600 lumens (6400)
2x 23w 6500k - 1600 lumens (3200)
For a total of 14800 lumens. I may add some more, but its a start for now. I put up mylar on the inside. The plant is sitting on a milk crate with a fan blowing straight up underneath. I will probably cut a whole in the top with an exhaust fan for heat control as it gets up to 90ish with the door closed, so I leave it cracked open to get it to mid 80s. I think I will also add an intake duct at the bottom as well.
The cabinet: I wish it was wider but it was free and in my garage already. Went shopping and man are cabinets expensive! Nothing beats free...
The lights: I went for maximum coverage. Yes, it really is a daily, and for some reason, sometimes hourly battle for the optimum spot. The garage is my new favorite room in the house...
A closeup of the top, it sure looks like it should turn into some nice buds, but we will see...The guy who had it did a good job topping as it has many little bud heads
A different top (these are all over) hope its good!
So, any thoughts are appreciated! As I mentioned, I sort of rushed into this one, but hopefully, I can manage to pull out something decent. If anything it has been the catalyst to get me to start growing! I think I will try Hydro next and add an HPS light and just use these to supplement the next batch.
