As the title says I am trying to decide on a medium for my flood and drain grow..

I will have two 4X8 trays, 4 1000 watts, closed room, Co2, 2 90 gallon reservoirs, air conditioner, etc.......

Plants will be flowered at 12-15 inches

I will have 20 plants in each tray, all plants will be in pots, I like the mobility....

So what do u guys think for medium??? hydroton, Coco, terrapot, rockwool, anything else your clever minds can conjure up??? and what pots do you like?

I would like to flood 1-3 times a day....

Best regards

i have seen people use lava rock a couple times with no problems its cheap and easy to get with out people asking questions

Al B Fucked uses something call flytocell or something like that. Sounds like the bomb but I couldn't find it. Might be just the shit for such a fine operation as you have just described. I think I'd try to find some of that

what would guys says are the pros and cons of your preferred mediums for flood and drain in pots?

Best Regards

if you wanna use flood and drain with pots use 3-5 gallon smart pots depending on your headroom filled with coco the smart pots allow plenty of airflow through the roots with coco and will keep coco from clogging drains etc.

pretty much just loose RW he also called it floc once or twice when i talked to him.

I heard hydroton is kinda dirty and clogs up your system. No? Never used it so I don't know.
I like coco a lot, Pretty clean and gets raved by almost everyone who uses it
Cana A&B could not be more simple.
A little dicy firts couple weeks then it smooths out for a nice easy ride

Leaning towards smart pots with coco... Do you guy think 100 percent coco? or should i mix with hydroton, perlite??? Thanks

use 100% coco that is your best bet. it works great very clean inert medium. cleaning hydroton is a pain in the ass the main reason i switched to coco and i will never go back

clog?? i have never had these issues before, if you dont clean them they can be a bit dusty and leave some brown shit in the water but cleans right off lol, just clean it and you will be fine.

Pretty hard to clog an ebb and flow - might be hard on the pump. Smart pots with coir would probably work good, but smart pots are expensive as fuck. Grodan Growcubes are cheap and you can use them with regular pots.

Btw, gravel (driveway-grade limestone) makes a good bed for and ebb and flow table. Stick about three inches at the bottom, it keeps the table draining good and lets you have depth without needing a giant res. Use real gravel, not hydroton - hydroton floats.

i dont no why but i got a feeling lime stone could be really bad for ph .....

Lime is used to neutralize acids. It doesn't seem like limestone hurts ph at all. It is a hard stone, it doesn't really break down.

I use Rockwool blocks and nothing else. I want my system to be as simple as possible. Rockwool is cheap , clean , and easy to use. My reservoir never gets slimy. Harvest time is easy and clean up is a breeze. Just wash the tray.

I was in a hydro store yesterday. They had a display of som ebb & flow setups. Big ass rockwool cubes on rockwool planks. Looked real tight. Very neat and tidy.
If you are the anal type it just night fit the bill........chortle

you can check out my signature and see how clean this set up is. I like to refer to it as " set it and forget it ".
